Is running /e/os 3.4-s secure on Samsung S8 dreamlte

Hey all, first time poster and new to the whole /e/os ecosystem.

I recently installed the 3.4-s build for my samsung s8 dreamlte, and noticed in the patch notes that Security patches are no longer available for AOSP 12.

This is not my daily driver however I do have a few apps installed from the appstore/fdroid and use it mostly with open source/privacy focused apps, however since the device is still connected to the internet and I am concerned about security in general.

Looking for advice or suggestions on the below:

  • Is there any cause for concern here that this build is not receiving any more security patches from AOSP 12?
  • Is there another build that does receive lates security updates? If yes, any links would be appreciated.

About the android version, donā€™t except to have upgrade soon with new version of e/OS. It will still be s version (equal to android 12).

But as dreamlte was once sold on murena store, it should still receive security patch, in my understanding.

In order to check of there is any known downfall for your device with the 3.4, I would recommend to use the search engine of this forum (the :mag: icon) with the keyword feedback, 3.4, dreamlte.

Same applies for eOSā€¦also would recommend to update Baseband to the latest available version if possible.

Hello. I am re-using this thread because my question is similar.
I am new to /e/ os and currently migrating from my previous Android phone (which I must give back to my employer in a few weeks because I am quitting them). I just bought a second-hand smartphone, a Samsung S8, provided with /e/ installed. I wanted to try /e/ and it was the simplest way.

There are a couple of things I still donā€™t fully understand regarding the versions of /e/.

The Settings menu of /e/ says that the installed version is Android 12, /e/ 3.4-s-20260114569182-official-dreamlte. According to the docs from e.foundation, the official build version of this phone is indeed Android 12.

However, according to the Wikipedia article about /e/ , /e/ 3.4 is a fork of LineageOS 22.2 , which according to its own Wikipedia article, should be based on Android 15.

The phone offers me to download the upgrades to /e/ 3.5 and /e/ 3.6 , the latter being based on LineageOS 23 and hence on Android 16.

So, my questions are :

  • The current version of /e/ that my phone runs is based on what ? Android 12 or 15 ?
  • May I, should I upgrade to /e/ 3.5 or 3.6 ?
  • What does ā€˜dreamlteā€™ mean ?

The /e/OS versions are independent of Android version.
The new /e/OS e-3.6 on different devices might be any of
e-3.6-a16,
e-3.6-a15,
e-3.6-a14,
e-3.6-t Android 13,
e-3.6-s Android 12.

dreamlte is the device codename

Your System Updater has offered you 3.5 and 3.6. No need to move up incrementally, 3.6 is the whole ROM update but it is still Android 12 (S).
