For anything above a 3x3 lock pattern, this is a stupid setting. It’s arguably a stupid setting for a 3x3 pattern too. I just locked myself out of my phone. Now I’m going to purchase the same handset second-hand to have it side-by-side with my phone to try and unlock it by seeing where the dots are on the other device. I hope I don’t exceed the allowed number of unlock attempts and brick my device (I don’t even know what this number is). Wish me luck.
Lol, clearly I’m not the first person to face this issue.
For the record, this is what I had to do to get it unlocked. Bought a second-hand FP3 for £100 to compare where the pattern grid was; marked the edges of the grid on my phone with cut-out pieces of paper. This type of nonsense shouldn’t be necessary.
