Just got my new fairphone 6 with /e/OS and it's working fine :)

hurrah! it arrived yesterday and i spent some time setting it up  it seems to be working fine.

i’m not sure about bundling a default mail client. maybe it’s good for people coming from google-android/iOS. maybe it could be put on fdroid so it gets updated automatically?

now i’m going to try to find a screwdriver so i can see inside

hello! i don’t speak spanish, but i understood your post so i’m answering in a related language, hoping you’ll understand me.

i bought it from fairphone. delivery was quick. i already have some knowledge of other aosp-android-roms (lineage os for example) and i’ve been using fdroid on my pixel for ages, so i already knew how to install the apps i use.

even the configuration of my own nextcloud instance went without problems

oh, cool  i like the look of the finger hoop. it looks like it collapses flat on to the back of the phone when not in use

You can make it flat when unused, however it does stick out, even with the official Fairphone case, so it will wobble if you push the sides. Aside from that it’s a nice accessory.

I don’t understand that. What do you mean by that, please?

yeah, sure.

i like having pre-installed apps for things like mail, because the phone is usable right out of the box. however, on my murena os phone the pre-installed apps aren’t updated over the app store. so to get a new version of an app with new functionality or bug fixes you need to wait for the next release of murena os, i think.

google seems to manage with android to have pre-installed apps (like chrome and gmail) that are automatically updated on the play-store. i wonder if murena could do the same.

in particular i’m unsure about how old the email-client is. it seems to be a fork of k9 and i think k9 got renamed to thunderbird about 2 years ago.

oh i forgot one really terrible horrible thing that left me gasping for air and wondering what other atrocities my future might hold: in every unboxing video i saw on youtube people got /e/OS stickers. my fairphone with /e/OS was delivered WITHOUT STICKERS !!!1!eleven!!!elventy-one!!!

needless to say, i’m not sure how i will weather this blow …

Perhaps @AudeM could help you there?

Last work was 1 month ago : mail It is indeed a fork of K9-Mail which is now Thunderbird.

That would be interesting. I wonder what @GaelDuval thinks about that.

Thanks  will do! Yippee! Stickers!

I must admit to being a bit confused about the difference between k9 and Thunderbird. K9 still has regular releases on F-Droid. Maybe it is just unbranded Thunderbird nowadays?

In any case, development of Thunderbird seems to be going very quickly while looking at the git repo of the murena mail client much less work seems to be going on.

This doesn’t bother me much: the murena client does everything I need (at least it has done up to now), however i can imagine maintaining it is a duplication of effort. Why not just use vanilla Thunderbird (or vanilla k9, if it is indeed just an unbranded version of Thunderbird)?

we’ve been updating both apps to give users the same solid experience, so it’s normal to notice that K-9 Mail and Thunderbird look and feel nearly identical. They’re built on the same code, and that’s intentional. You’ll notice some features are selectively enabled for Thunderbird as opposed to K-9 Mail, usually when they are simply a better fit for Thunderbird (like the import from K-9 functionality).

I’ve had an FP6 e/OS for about two months now, and in my opinion it works very well. If something doesn’t work, I assume that it’s because I don’t know how to use it properly.

I’m very satisfied, but unfortunately I’m still pretty clueless when it comes to the bigger picture.

The accessories aren’t that great. I found a clear silicone case that is much more comfortable than the bumper I bought for a lot of money.

The FP6 is now my third FP (2, 3+, 6) and I would buy it again and again.
