as Week30 tells us we have to format because of an âissue with FDE encryptionâ, we have to backup the phone and I suggest to wait Week31 to confirm we have to manually install the âe-4.1.1-a15â, with adb and fastboot (without going back to a stock-Rom of gigaset).
Are we in the situation like a 1st installation of /e/OS on a genuine GS290 ?
( âimg-e-4.1.1-a15âŠzipâ or âe-4.1.1-a15âŠzipâ ? )
Although e-4.1.1-a15-20260718651065-official-GS290.zip was built and published a few days ago we are used to official releases only appear OTA in the second half of the release cycle.
Furthermore, from memory, perhaps OTA Upgrades happen at the very end of the cycle (even if the ghost of the release arrived accidentally on one or two user phones (??))
Iâm still not sure how to back up my data before updating to version 4.1.1. Under âSettingsâ > âSystem,â I canât find the âBackupâ menu item to launch Seedvault. Is there another way?
Can anyone confirm that the GS290 deleted all data after updating to version 4.1.1?
Backup /e/OS phone: Problem: In the Package Manager app (version 7.9), a design bug prevents multiple selections and hides the checkboxes for batch export. Solution: Downgrading via F-Droid to the older, stable version 7.7 restores the classic features, so that the checkboxes for batch backup appear as usual.
Restore /e/OS phone (after updating to version 4.1.1):
The âPackage Managerâ app isnât very impressive. It only reinstalls the apps individually, but not their settings. Banking apps are completely reset and require new activation codes. In my opinion, this isnât really satisfactory. It means you practically have to set up your smartphone from scratch after updating to Android 15. This process is extremely time-consuming. Seedvault handles this much better, but of course it canât restore banking apps either. Letâs hope that the new âBackup in Murena Workspaceâ feature improves this significantly!
this OTA-upgrade ( not update ) from A12 to A15 executes a clean new installation of the /e/OS, so no âoldâ data (photos, videos, contacts, news, sms etc.) will remain on the phone.Itâs a factory reset.
Please read the Week 29, Development and Testing Updates
Especially: GS290* - A12 â A15 (v4.1)
(Devices marked with an â*â have an issue with FDE encryption which requires format before the OS can be upgraded. This essential means there would be data loss. If we are able to build a A15 build for these devices, the user will have to manual install it and that would require first taking a backup of all data.)
On /e/OS 4.0-s (A12) go to: Einstellungen>System>Sicherung>Seedvault .
I still have a second GS290 on A12
Hi kolkrabe,
I was aware that a full factory reset is required for the update to Android 15. The only annoying thing is that âSeedvaultâ (the LineageOS backup app) isnât used to back up the data. Seedvault is actually used by /e/OS as well, but it was no longer accessible on the GS290 in version 4.0 (see above). A Seedvault backup, combined with a Murena account, does a much better job. Unfortunately, the instructions âHow to Backup and Restore your /e/OS phoneâ linked above are very cumbersome to follow.
device: Gigaset gs290
from /e/OS-4.0-s-official (A12) to /e/OS-4.1.1-A15-official
the Upgrade succeded, fine, after saving all data I could, contacts and messages included.
The upgrade came by the usual the system-update, with warnings to backup !
Many thanks to the Team, as they have prepared very nicely the upgrade for this device !
Thanks to @piero who told us to refresh the option âmany timesâ to make appear the 4.1.1. and to @kolkrabe to change the screen resolution, to see how to continue .
The âissueâ was when I copied back the saved data to the gs290, through a debian-laptop : the dates and some attributes of the files are lost (i.e. date become the present instant).
Not really an issue, but does some-one knows the option in the new /e/OS-system to keep these attributes ? As far as I tried, /e/OS do not let such changes occur through USB connexion.
Techno-dunce here! Apologies for any mistakes, or if I ask too much at once. My GS290 has been unloved and stuck on v3.01-s for the past year. Can I jump straight to 4.1.1 using the methods outlined above in Pieros post (I use Linux Mint)?? Would I be able to then use the updater app as previously for further updates. Lastly - how do I access recovery on the GS290? I dont mind about data loss. Any pointers at all are welcomed by this overwhelmed auld wifie - I have been trying to understand how to update bit by bit and am finding it quite daunting. Actually as I donât use social media even working out how to post was somewhat scary!
