[LIST] Banking Apps on /e/OS

@Manoj shall i post here when the german Banking app “Sparkasse S-Tan” does not work anymore? The app worked until the last update (either e/os or app update) and is now claiming I am using a rooted device (which I do not) . hence I assume it might be related to an app update rather e/os update. I use a pixel 5 with the official version 3.7.2 and the devices bootloader was and is unlocked.

Yes, you can post here. This post is to share details on all Banking related apps across the world which work or do not work on /e/OS.

Thanks @Manoj

Will this also trigger a possible look into a solution? I did work before and as with all banking apps, it is paramount for most of us to have a working banking application for the banking itself or the transfer approval process/2FA. The latter one now being my problem as I can not do anything anymore without this app.

Well, probably I can ask my bank to open up another way of 2FA but that is probably not how the solution should be:)

Thanks for the update and looking forward to a possible solution.

For people using boursobank, I was unable to use the app with eOS 3.7.1 (and too lazy to try the various workarounds listed in this thread) but I realized the web application is actually quite usable on a phone and they added the possibility to register passkeys/webauthn tokens for the 2fa.

I’ve registered my phone as a passkey and my yubikeys as backup and I’ve been able to login on the web app since without needing the android app. I can’t say for sure whether this makes the android app completely unnecessary for every operation, but so far I haven’t had any issues.

It is working for me on 3.7.1 FP6 with locked bootloader.

S-pankki / S-mobile stopped working on a version 2.40. Complains that the phone is rooted even it’s not.

That sounds like my problem with the Sparkassen S-Tan app.

Solution for me was to manually install the app version prior to the latest. Seems that at least my bank changed something in their app recently, that detects this is not an apple or google software phone and concludes it is rooted and thus not save.

This is not a sustainable solution but it works for the moment.

Hello Tominer,

I suppose it work with a Google account on your phone?…it seems to be a must have..

Bruno30114

yes, I have a google account in microg.

How did you find the previous version? Aurora store makes it possible, but I have no idea what the version code is.

The Revolut app does not work on my device. I live in the Netherlands.
Registering the app stops the moment the app wants to make a photo for face recognition.
I installed /e/os manually on my Samsung S8. It was not pre-installed.
I have read that this makes a difference for registering the app.

Searched the web for stores that offer .apk downloads. You will find them usually when searching for “app-name”. Apk in your browsers.

Then I simply looked for the older version as I knew it worked like a week ago just fine.

I hope this helps

Hi bob,
How do you deal with 3DSecure ? Can you validate online payment from the website ? Is Bourso agree to activate SMS validation ?

How do you deal with 3DSecure ?

I didn’t think of the 3d secure use case (I use fortuneo for credit cards payments, zero problems with their app). I only have saving accounts with boursobank.

Unfortunately no APKs out there.

I tried the latest version of the app in my 2nd phone which has iodeOS (A13) installed and the app worked normally.

The only difference that I can spot is that on my 1st phone the /e/OS is on A15 and MicroG is two versions behind (0.3.13 vs 0.3.15)

Well, let’s hope that future updates solve the problem somehow.

Denmark :denmark:

Added “Hvidbjerg Bank”. Works on e/os 3.7.1.

One of the things checked by revolut is that the bootloader is locked. But it also checks other things.
It’s working on my wife’s FP6 with locked bootloader, but not on my phone running /e/unofficial build with unlocked bootloader

Both my wife and I have asked bourse customer service to remove our device from the app-check as we can’t authenticate on a device running /e/

For me they were very reluctant, giving me a long and complicated process, scaring me that this would decrease the level of security and that I wouldn’t be covered by insurance in case my account or credit card would be hacked ( I doubt this is legal, but nevermind)
They told me that the system + mail double authentication could be stopped at anytime because it’weak level of security, and they need to comply to new, stronger identification standards imposed by Europe.

For my wife, the guy (not the same one) didn’t seem to understand what was the problem : we had to explain him the app couldn’t run because we were using an alternative os, called /e/, therefore we needed another authentication method because we wouldn’t keep an account with them if we are not able to authenticate for transfers, payments, etc… he did know nothing about /e/, but he understood the problem and made the change without the scaring warnings about scams and loosing insurance.

After that you will need to enter a code received by SMS and then another one received by email

Revolut seems to be working without any issues the past few months but Crypto.com suddenly stopped working once the update was done, just shows (Install from Google Play)

I was in the same situation;
Revoluut requires a g$$gle “genuine” phone,
Since we’re using /e/OS, the installation proceeds normally, but it checks certain phone settings, stops, and displays warning messages saying that the bootloader needs to be locked, …
And we CAN NOT relock the boot loader in /e/OS
