[LIST] Banking Apps on /e/OS

This is a query post. Are banks moving away from Browser logins to App only? I hope not. I can login to my bank with a vpn enabled on a GNU/Linux Desktop using Vivaldi. I only use this browser for Banking online, I then scrub all history after loghing out. I use LibreWolf for all orlther Browsing.

Helios (France) is also working perfectly now on Faiphone 5 since a few weeks, not sure exactly since when (there was an issue before that made it always appear in landscape, and be detected as web version, preventing seeing card details and validating payments without sms).

On my e/OS current GS6 handset as well as previous google riddled RAZR2022 I have never used banking apps as they were only available from the rogue google play store  hence my preference has been to log in via browser. It has always been my way of banking on line and I can see both banks I use have a dedicated mobile mode for that access type even if not on the app. I don’t think most of the banks would ditch browser access as some even tend to give you more options on the browser access versus their app. On the other hand there are examples like Chase Bank (in U.K.) saying in T&Cs you can only access the bank on a mobile phone using their app and it is a condition to get their account opened - I’d give them a wide berth personally…

Interesting. My son-in-law has a Chase Account but I think he only uses it on travels to other countries, not sure. I think I have heard stories on here about people being de-banked and loss of funds and covered on TV too. I’d always avoid web banking only. I sympathise for those who don’t have a choice depending on where they live in the world if Apps are the only avenue of accessing their bank.

What I like about the App Lounge is it’s Privacy rating but not sure how this can be sustained as the organisation that runs App Checks is in need of donations. I was bemused that my Bank’s App scores 4/10 and a building society 5/10, and the German app for my bank gets 9/10!

Oh and I only use Browser for banking only on the desktop. I would never use the Browser on a mobile device.

Icard used to work some weeks ago. Now it is giving this message. I am using FP6 with preinstalled e/OS/. Currently running version 4.0-a15-20260610633983-official-FP6

Finland. Have not done any modifications to the phone.

Belfius Mobile stopped working here on my FP5 this week!

I think since the update to version 26.2.1

The error message claims security reasons (ā€œOm veiligheidsredenen is het niet mogelijk Belfius Mobile op dit toestel te gebruiken.ā€).

I am running /e/OS 4.1.1

Are you also having this issue?

IKO (formerly pko) and Mbank apps both work amazingly without issues, including nfc payments. Mbank was slightly borked (app crashed in a card view tab) for a few weeks a while ago, which I suspect was an /e/os specific issue, but it has been resolved since. Verified on fairphone 6 purchased with /e/os preinstalled.

Currently /e/os is 4.0 but it’s been good for a long time for me.

on my side Yuh is blocked again …:slightly_frowning_face:

FP6 /e/os 4.0

Same here, I was hoping it would work again. I tried installing it from App Lounge (the official e/OS app store) without success, then from App Gallery, also without success. :frowning:

For your information, I’ve already contacted Yuh three times about this problem. They say it’s Swissquote that’s causing the issue and forcing this ineffective, pseudo-security on them. A little tip: go to Trustpilot or Google Reviews and leave a comment to let them know if your app isn’t working. This might motivate them to fix it if they understand the problem, or you could call your bank.

E/OS 4.1.1 with FP 5 (manually installation)

On App Lounge

On App Gallery

On my FairPhone 6, the Rabobank (The Netherlands) app works well, all functions seem to work.

It seems Belfius updated their error message.

Freely translated from Dutch it now says: ā€œFor security reasons it is not possible to use Belfius Mobile on this device. It contains apps from a non-official appstore. Remove them and then try againā€.

I suppose this part of Google’s quest to ban ā€œside loadingā€.

I’m not planning on removing all my F-Droid apps, as that’s the bulk of my phone. I’ll talk to my contact at Belfius next week, but this could be a reason to move my savings elsewhere.

And for any other Belgians reading along: it seems I solved this.

A call to the Belfius helpdesk revealed that the error message complaining about side loading was inaccurate. Apparently only one app was flagged as harmful: KDE Connect (lets you use your phone as a remote control for your KDE desktop and send SMS messages from Linux).

The woman at the helpdesk insisted that the only solution was to delete KDE Connect. A suggestion of white listing it, or revising this new policy was met with a ā€œI am not going to discuss this with you, I gave you the solution.ā€ and ā€œI am ending this conversationā€.

Rudeness aside, it turns out Belfius only spies on your other installed apps at update or install time. So the fix: remove KDE Connect, re-install and authenticate Belfius Mobile, re-install and pair KDE Connect.

Probably this will hold until the next update.

Edit: so, keeping this small annoyance in mind, I’d say Belfius Mobile (Belgium) can be added to the list of working bank apps. Tested on Fairphone 5, /e/OS 4.1.1

Belfius still works for me. I’m on /e/OS version 4.1.1 and using Belfius version 26.2.1.

Yeah good idea to contact the bank @thpar_eos I think we have to informe them from the mistake they made by using such stupid solution for security.

For Switzerland:

I can not edit the first post, probably because I new, but Zak for clerc bank work fine on FP5 since 3.1.1 and also on 4.1.1 whit unlocked bootloader.

I think also all twint app work on e/OS

Revolut work also good on 4.1.1 with unlocked bootloader.

I have to find a friend to move my account from yuh to a other bank, neon work good also.

@Manoj Manoji, Manoj, Manoj is it possible to add column to the first post ? One with installed with : (app store name) other with version of E/OS, a other with version of the app, and a date of the constant ?

Thanks too all to informs the software devloppers and the bank that this is not fear for user to block vollontary the soft for degooglised phone

There is a details column in the end where all this can be added. Adding more and more columns would make it difficult to scroll through the table on devices.

Tried to update the table and got a Server error 500.

@AudeM Thanks for the workaround for BoursoBank, I can access to the app. However, as this app remains an unfathomable mystery, I keep receiving the push alerts (specifically those mandatory ones to validate payments) on my previous google phone, meaning that my e/os phone has not been granted the long awaited status of ā€˜trusted phone’. Have you had the same issue?

@Ezzie you should uninstall the BoursoBank app from your previous phone. It is what I did. Unfortunately, I don’t get app push alerts on my FP6 /e/OS 3.7.3. However, I am able to validate payments or other critical operations after connecting to my account in the app. Push alerts are not mandatory to achieve these operations.

thanks! i’ll try with next payment. It’s still mysterious why I can’t use the Fido Key which I have registered for the web site as a 2-factor check for payment.
