Logging out of Mail app

Hello,

I’ve been using a Fairphone 6 with /e/os for a few weeks.

One of the first things I did was set up my Gmail account with the default Mail app, however after having issues with sync, I decided to use the Gmail app.

For some reason, I can’t seem to remain logged out of my account in the Mail app. I’ve tried logging out via the app, clearing storage/cache, removing my account from the Accounts section of Settings, etc, but it keeps logging me back in.

I wouldn’t mind too much but I can’t seem to turn off notifications for the app. Also, every now and again I get notifications saying things like IllegalStateException.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to remain logged out of the Mail app, or uninstall it, or disable notifications completely?

Thanks!

There is a current bug where unwanted accounts cannot be removed; they seem to return a little while after removal.

I suggest you try to reconfigure the Mail app > Settings > your@e.mail > Account settings … to delete all fields for both Sending mail > Outgoung server and receiving mail > Incoming server.

With any luck this may even suppress error messages like IllegalStateException etc.

Thanks, good to know that it’s a known bug. Thanks for the link.

Do you mean removing details of the IMAP/SMTP servers? I’ll give it a go.

Many thanks.

Unfortunately this didn’t work… After reboot the IMAP/SMTP settings reverted to the proper/complete values.

This is still an issue for me. And now the mail app keeps crashing when I try to open it again. This should be a priority for the team, as there is no way to either:

  • Uninstall the the mail app
  • Disable mail notification
  • Remove accounts

Which means my phone now has a bunch of broken, unwanted notifications everyday

What you can do is to stop the background synchronization of all configured accounts, this is an option in the Mail app under the Network category.

When you did this the Mail app behaves as dead, it does nothing anymore. It should also after a reboot not connect the servers for any request anymore. But it remains just as configured as it has been before. When you later decide to use it again you can.

This is also something to suggest all people who run their own mail clients to save energy and network bandwidth.

This is a good tip, thank you!
