I’m planning to install /e/OS on a secondary work phone and I’d love some advice. I’m looking for a budget-friendly model that’s officially (or reliably) supported by /e/OS and likely to receive updates for the next few years—basically, something with good long-term support.
Performance isn’t a concern, and I’m open to used devices. If you’ve had a good experience with a particular model, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!
Cmf phone 1 , you can get it for around 150€ in Ali. It has official E/OS and was sold by them preinstalled. Sadly some bugs, colors are wrong and sometimes freezes. Still Android 14. so yeah downsides but very cheap
The Nothing CMF is indeed interesting and budget-friendly. I already bought one for my dad and installed /e/ OS on it for him.
However, the main question in this thread still hasn’t been answered: What’s the LTS situation for the Nothing CMF? I couldn’t find any info about it. It’s pointless to buy a budget phone if updates stop after just 1 or 2 years.
Obviously, I’m talking about /e/ OS updates, not stock Android.
Can’t answer with guarantees for cmf (and I doubt anyone can) but generally spoken all devices murena sells/sold in its shop do get official and those devices are supported with updates and upgrades as long as technically feasible.
I’m starting to considering buying the Nothing CMF 1. However, I know this model requires the bootloader to remain unlocked. What features and apps will be compromised in this case?
Pixel 5 a perfect budget friendly phone used. Just specify what you need, battery, screen (big small), audio jack or not, give a list of what you are interested in.
Pixel 5 used in OK condition it’s 100 USD or more. It’s supported by Murena, and probably will be in the future. You either buy it on auction, remember to ask if the bootloader can be unlocked. Or just hassle-free, buy from Murena directly if they have it in stock. The best thing is that the bootloader can be locked, so the most banking apps will work, including Revolut.
This would normally depend on how long LineageOS supports the phone, as /e/OS and, indeed, most of the other custom ROMs out there, build on LineageOS.
Apps which rely on security provided by Google may be troublesome with or without locked bootloader on /e/OS. I do zero financial transactions through an app.
