I can’t do anything on the mail app. I input my email and always gives me “Checking incoming server settings failed!” error. Happens with privacy features turned off or on, different emails and has never actually worked. What is the issue? Or is there a way of either uninstalling it, or make another app the default? I go to default apps but only options are phone, messaging, browser and home launcher, nothing for mail
can’t use “Mail” with Protonmail - it uses it’s own App for access and only supposed to work with standard protocols (imap, smtp) if you use a bridge tool that isn’t available for Android itself.
You’d need to host the bridge externally (layout of that page is jinxed, use reader mode) and connect to that for k9 / “Mail” to work. Imo use the official App
I already use the official app but I have no other use for Mail itself. Main issue is that I can’t seem to make any other mail app the default, so it always opens Mail. How do I uninstall or, at the very least, make Mail not the default?
Yeah, I try to login normally. I just want to disable the Mail app at this point since it’s useless to me and I’d prefer to use Protonmail one as default since it’s the only I use
There seems to be a rather hidden way to set the default e-mail app on Android (and therefore /e/OS), see here: How to Change the Default Email App on Android
I must confess that I have not tried it, but the description seems reasonable.
You can indeed find descriptions to “freeze” or disable System apps (like the mail app) on /e/OS in this forum. However, I would rather suggest not to do it to avoid any future problems. If your default e-mail app is set to ProtonMail and all accounts have been deleted in the mail app, the mail app can be ignored and should just do nothing, i.e., have no impact on battery life etc.
