Main and rear microphone not working on 3.0.2-a15

While having used the microphone (for example in phone calls) successfully since installing /e/os on my FP6, the microphone (both main an rear) have stopped working for almost all apps since a few days.

The symptoms:

  • Both microphones work when using the Camera app and recording a video (tested using front and back camera)
  • The microphone does not work in any other app. It does not work with Recorder, Phone, etc.

What I tried:

  • Checking all permissions of all apps. All permissions are correct. I can also see Phone (for example) is using the microphone. It doesnt work though.
  • I connected a bluetooth headset. Again, there is no sound being recorded
  • I checked for /e/os updates. There are none
  • I tested all audio related options in Developer Options (trying to see if this is an audio routing issue). No luck
  • Booted in safe mode
  • Run the Fairphone Checkup app. Mics (both main an rear) also don’t work there

I don’t know what other options I have. I feel this is cause by an audio routing issue (due to the fact recorded videos DO have sound), but can’t solve it. After all the things I tried, I’m feeling more and more this is an /e/os audio routing bug, but can’t find any other mentions of this so far.

Any help?

might be worth to file this in the gitlab, there’s no entry yet for the fp6 on this. Needs you to create an account though. There must be a testing channel on the FP6 in telegram if you want to check if it’s already known.

You could try to factory reset. For me the audio works.

I will try to factory reset. Was hoping I would not need to do this for a problem I do not understand.

After the reset will test and if it did not fix the problem, I will create an account on Gitlab. Tried registering to Gitlab yesterday already btw, but it did not accept my mail-domain for some reason…

Before Factory reset perhaps install app Checkup aka Fairphone Checkup.

The gitlab fails email is a known issue and the Report an Issue link above tells you how to deal with it, (Getting an error message in new ID creation on /e/OS Gitlab?) that is ask an Admin here by DM with real ID.

I did run it. Mentioned the following in my topic start:

  • Run the Fairphone Checkup app. Mics (both main an rear) also don’t work there

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction regarding registering on Gitlab!

Doing a factory reset and afterwards (before installing any apps) testing did sadly not fix the issue. Still the microphone is not functioning.

Requested access to Gitlab to see if anything is known there.

Maybe join testing channel to get a newer version. You can also leave it again after that. Just don’t post to much information about testing here

Maybe simple, but Have you tried the new green button? When switched it disables your microphone and camera…

Yes. Using the button does toggle the microphone in the settings. Using it sadly does not fix it though.

I have 3.0.4 for me it works, it will be release soon in about 3-4 days.

Switched to the test channel and installed 3.0.4. No luck.

Ok. I flashed back to stock Android (the FP6 factory image).

Problem still there.

Microphone works when recording using camera, does not work in any other app (including Phone). Even after flashing to stock and not installing anything,

So this is no an /e/os-issue. It is an issue with my phone. I have submitted a ticket to Fairphone now. Sorry for bothering this community with the issue. I will report back how it will be fixed eventually, but will stop posting updates here now.

You didn’t bother anyone, good luck with your ticket.

I’m experiencing the exact same issue.

Fingerprint sensor also does not work. Maybe it’s related?
