Messages app doesn't display received messages, or displays them incorrectly

yesterday, i reinstalled e/os on my fairphone 5 after briefly switching back to stock android. now, the default messaging app doesn’t display received messages. well, to be fair, it does display some of them, but from the wrong sender.

switching to another messaging app (namely fossify messages), i have no such issue.

where can i send a bug report?
