Hello,

I can’t send images with the SMS default app on my fairphone 4

I’m using eOS 3.2 and my carrier is Sosh France.

I checked the APN settings and it seems correct.

Any idea ?

Bouygues/Cdiscount client, MMS always have been a mess from my POV, but not related to /e/os only. This won’t help and some statements are most probably false, but I need to express my frustrations, sorry ^^

  • I had to tweak my APNs many times, for many phones brands and service providers. It was never really reliable.
  • It seems that there is a theoritical size limit for attachments, but I could never find a statement on it. For now I’ve set the auto compression to 300kb in my messaging app, seems to work.
  • For receiving…it really depends on who sends it and what is sent…once again size seems to be the key point. Even when receiving successfuly some MMS, sometimes I get an SMS two days later stating falsly that it was not delivered

My deep feeling : carriers are not providing and updating correctly APNs settings and MMS prerequisites. No one understands what the fuck is going on, and no one seems to care. MMS specfications are shitty, outdated, mostly a trick to make something work hackishly at the beginning, and something that can’t work reliably nowadays because it’s most probably mapped through some sort of shitty emulation layer to make it work on “modern” networks. Switch to IPV6 did not help, most probably.

Well, in the end, I fallback to mails or Signal each time it’s possible, but as no one wants to leave Whatsapp or lose time on that kind of technological hurdles…I’m just getting more isolated. That’s the way it is.
