I know what I found isn’t for general consumption yet but since the dev build is public I flashed it and it’s been very smooth and snappy. I got this phone as new-old stock and for a 2022 phone it is very fast. A los faster than my CMF Phone 1 which was about the same price. It has a sd888+ which is still pretty good to this day.
Everything works well except the camera app, it needs some configuration of settings not exposed in the app. Like telling it we don’t have 4 but 2 lenses. Lineage stock camera app or Gcam works in the meantime.
I’m very glad /e/OS is going to be officially supported on this phone. Motorola is not releasing Android 15/16 for it and security updates have also stopped. Unlocking the boot loader was a breeze and double pressing the power button makes the warning go away without the annoying delay.
I am not sure if the boot loader can be locked/unlocked at will. But once you have the unlock code from Motorola that will always work to unlock it, for now their repair app also works in restoring from fastboot even with an unlocked boot loader. So going back to stock is easy too. I just don’t know if it is save to relock the boot loader either on /e/OS or stock.
I’ll look into signing up to Telegram and join the test group. Currently trying out a couple of roms but I really like /e/OS and what it stands for. I have been running the microG build of Lineage 22.2 with no issues and waiting for my compilation from source to be done for microG with Lineage 23.0 – which is taking quite some time lol.
Long story short; thank you for supporting this phone, it seems to work great. This phone is officially supported by Lineage and their Android 16 build also runs very well. Hoping to be able to help test and make it work perfectly on /e/OS and get some good mileage out of this little beast for those still rocking this phone like @mr.simplex who is/was also eager to try it out!
Very exciting to hear! I’m still waiting for the official build (since the Edge 30 Fusion is my daily driver), but it’s very cool to hear that someone else has this phone, is enjoying it and is working on it! When it was still getting official updates I always recommended it to people since it has very good specs for being in that lower-midrange tier.
Do you have the ‘chop’ action to turn on the torch still? I’ve noticed with my one running LineageOS that the feature still exists even if you can’t customise it in software.
What does make you think Murena can have plan to sell this Motorola device ?
Sorry, you’ve misunderstood me, when I said ‘official build’ I was referring to the ‘public’ build as opposed to the ‘dev’ build (that @takino is talking about), I have no reason to believe that Murena will be selling Edge 30 Fusions preflashed with /e/OS.
chopchop should be there, at least I see a sensors.ssc.so in the device trees proprietary-files.txt and MotoActions is in the product_packages in its common repo here.
Can you search system Apps for “Moto Actions”? it’s not the same, but see the discussion in links here too
Interestingly the app is not in my system apps and trying to download it from Google Play prompts me with ‘this app won’t work on your device’
I wonder if maybe it needs to be included as an app inside the ROM? Or maybe flashed during the install?
I do see apps that potentially correlate with the parts of the ROM you’re talking about: ‘MotoNREnabler‘ and ‘android.overlay.moto.common‘. But neither of these seems to be interactable in any way.
I do have the chop-chop action, and you can toggle it on or off. Twisting your wrist to open the camera also works and double pressing power also works to open the camera. All three are enabled by default.
I think this phone is great and it’s sad Motorola only started giving long term support recently and only for some models. The new g57 only gets 2 years of updates, while the new Edge 70 gets security updates till 2031.
Not sure how Motorola decides what to support for how long. I do know the sd888+ still beats many brand new phones in speed, and especially in the gpu area. According to nano reviews this cpu is still in the top 50 fastest. This cpu really surprises me in how good it still is today.
(I have to wait an hour before I can reply to the other posts. Guess I tripped some anti-spam measure. Sorry.)
Sorry if I got the terminology wrong. I just saw “dev” in the url but totally missed the full caps community in the filename. With official I was referring to this post and it being added to the supported device list Mr.Simplex linked to.
Yes, it has 2 cams on the back and depth sensor. Both work in the /e/OS app but once you tap to lens 2 there is no way to back to 1 without passing 3 and 4 which then freezes the viewfinder until you restart the app. Likely an easy fix.
@takino what I mean about camera is do you have two camera apps? I have both eOS camera app and the Moto app. I use the Moto camera app and it works very well.
