Murena Account Authentication Failed (Every other day)

Good morning…. can I report that recently, there is an increased frequency of authentication errors on my Murena Account. I don’t have much to sync (mostly contacts to be honest) but I keep getting a notification asking me to reauthenticate. I do this but same thing happens again next day (sometimes after 2 days). It’s been happening every so often but seems to be much more frequent since 4.1.1. Murena FP6, latest version.

On my Teracube2s the same seems to happen after upgrade to /e/OS 4.1.1 .
How exactly do you reauthenticate?

I only found Reauthenticate in the pop-up-AccountManager (not in the one under Settings app!) below “VPN requires..“
and at first without a password (strange idea). Then I also tried “on special server” which also opens a Password field! As Server I used/typed! the default: murena.io
But on both ways I only get a screen with “trying..” and not any response …

I have the same problem on a FP5, also with version 4.1.1

Good day.

So I was able to fix this in 4.1.1 by first resetting my password. After that I was able to login again to the Workspace. And in Settings –> Accounts I removed my user@murena.io Account and then added it back immediately using the new password and everything synced. That did the trick. No problem since then. Note, by the way, that removing the Account on the phone, which seems to be necessary to fix this, is not the same as deleting the Account on the Server.

Hello.

I can confirm (for 4.1.1 with fp6) that removing and adding the murena account fix this issue for me.
Contrary to @Creignor I did not change my passwort. I just remove/add the account.

Until now, the error seems to be gone and synchronization is working.
Thank you @Creignor for the advice.

How long before the v4.2.?

Same problem here (FP5) and on at least one other device in the family (FP3). Another that’s still on 3.x (another FP3) does not have this issue.

Same issue here, I’m afraid.

Fairphone 6, with /e/OS 4.1.1 and this issue also occurs for me.

Update: After three days, the workaround does not work anymore. The Athentication Failed errors appear again. It seems I have to wait for version 4.2…

I too found that only removing and adding the account was not sufficient to get rid of the error so I first changed the password and then removed and restored the Account on the phone. Since then I’ve had no further problems. When I did a re-run of this, I also had to do a password request reset by using the “Forgot Password?” option.

I’ve been looking at this and the causes for it are somewhat complicated so perhaps someone here who knows more about these things would care to advise? From what I can gather, changing the password resets the authentication tokens, which may have become broken, used by the Murena Account Manage. And removing the Account serves to clear the Local Cache thus eliminating any any locally-cached broken tokens. By doing both, the device again syhchronizes with the server.

Same problem started happening for me and I found this thread. The remove account on phone (Fairphone) and add it back solution works for me so far.

Just removing and re-adding the Account on the phone is not effective; the problem will recur. First change the password, preferably on another device such as a laptop. This immediately fixes broken sessions on the Murena server and second, remove the account on the phone and then add it back using the new password. This clears the cache on the device. I reiterate: I have had no further authentication failures since doing this.

Hi all,

I’ve removed my account, changed the murena.io password from my laptop, now when I add a new account it asks for my Murena ID then opens the Cromite browser with https://accounts.murena.io …… and nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Hi again,

This worked for me - clear all data from the Cromite browser and make the Vivaldi browser the default then everything logs in.

Hi

I confirm changing the pwd on web and after in phone makes the sync OK again

Thanks!

Hi,

facing the same annoyance and trying the fix. I may be … dumb or what, but, how are we expected to add an account (or delete it).

I mean, when the ‘need to login again’ error appears, opening from the error message brings to a place, from which if I go back displays my murena account (identified by my murena id) in a big rectangular zone on top of the scree, from there I can add another one, but not sure how to remove it.

I have no idea how to open this location if not from the error message.

If I go to Settings / Accounts, it opens a totally different UI (with all other services accounts, and several accounts listed for murena services : contacts, webmail, and finally what seems to be ‘the’ general murena account maybe)

After some try and error I ended up with one account identified by email, but then “Notes” app required another account, and so I logged in from there and bham !, two accounts there (and 6 on the ‘accounts’ view from settings)

I feel like a grandpa discovering a swiss army knife for the first time

Any clue / link to “the right way” of adding murean account will be welcome.

Using FP5 with eOS 4.1.1

reaffirming: it makes a lot of sense with this OAuth Error to update to v4.2 first and retest.

Any clue / link to “the right way” of adding murean account will be welcome.

remove any murena account from Settings → Accounts. Readding the main account should already enlist addressbook and calendar. Have backups
