More updates since using it more:
- I tried to set up a Routing Profile for Transit, but I can’t select that. I can select all the other options though.
- When scrolling down in the Create Profile > Walking, to view what options there are, I can’t scroll down farther even though there seems to be more below (I see the start of another line of text below Sidewalk Factor: Set, as I pull on the screen to scroll down, but can’t any farther). I do have text size set bigger on the system settings of my phone due to eyesight, not sure if this is a factor. Edit: Changed text size back to default, still seeing the same issue (more text at bottom that I can’t scroll to). Edit 2: And when setting preferences with the slider, I can no longer view text that was previously viewable and cannot scroll to see it.
- I think I spoke too soon on the directional abbreviation in a street/address name (e.g. South X St. vs S X St.).
Something I’d like to see (maybe?, this may be a tall ask which I’d understand) since MapLibre is not working with some other apps I use (for work, hence the only reason I’d ask for this feature really) - a way to record a route I’ve taken. Like push a “start” button, maybe have a “pause” button, and of course an “end” button, showing distance, route taken, time spent on the route. (In the mean time, I’ll be looking for apps that not only record the route and show the map during the route recording, but also shows the completed route upon pressing “end” so I can send a screenshot of it when done.)
Hello @Rik , I have just downloaded version v1.0.0-beta.2 and I would like to congratulate your team and Murena for achieving such a quality in Murena Maps.
Most of the very problematic issues of the previous version have been resolved to the point that the app is now usable and in some aspects better than Magic Earth which is the original goal: native app with online map streaming for mainstream usage.
The map display is faster than Magic Earth and the address search works extremely well and fast.
After some marginal improvements and one more iteration it could perhaps be deployed.
Some small remarks:
- I have seen that you already included live traffic data, this is amazing, thanks for this ! The source of the data seems more reliable than the one used by magic Earth
- Regarding that live traffic data, it would be great to display it outside the itinerary planning view and offer a way to display it in the main exploratory view.
- The offline map data mode is still unfinished as it does not allow to mix live streaming of the missing data with the local data already downloaded.
- As offline map is not one of the main features targeted originally, I would prefer if you take the necessary time to develop a seamless merge between local offline data and online data for the missing tiles as it is the case in Magic Earth. Because it is not a must have feature for mainstream users, it could be acceptable to postpone the release of this feature (even though I use it all the time in Magic Earth
and it does happen often not to have any network ). I would really prefer having a download option per country or region instead of just a user-selected area because in the end, most people do not want to rely on a constant internet connection when we can download most data in advance. Smartphone have huge storage space that can be used to store maps of several countries permanently.
- You have added some icons for Restaurant and Schools on the map. Great move, though we still miss icons for the other POI types. It still feels inconsistent to have names only and no icon for most POI.
- Public Transit routing works extremely well in my opinion, congratulations !
- Ideally, it would be nice to have two or three routing options displayed on the map for car/pedestrian routing as it is for transit. Also try to remove the detailed turn-by-turn info in pedestrian and car routing modes, I would say nobody ever used that. Regarding transit routing, we miss the display on the map of the first offered option ; nevertheless the step by step transit itinerary is great !
- The timing calculation of a car itinerary was estimated too short in last build and is now too long. Maybe adjust the calibration coefficient or read the average driving speed of each road section from the traffic database.
- We can only access the itinerary feature through a search and as a consequence it makes it difficult to plan an itinerary that does not start from our local position unless we know the address of the start position. So we miss a map selection option for starting point and more generally an Itinerary button accessible from main screen instead of the less useful buttons: “Transit for location” and “POI in the area”
- The diamond button “POI in the area” of main menu is redundant with the search and the selection of POI should be changed. It would be better integrated in the search menu
- In general in most menus, the bottom monitor takes too much space and despite having and adjustable handle to reduce it towards the bottom, we cannot reduce it enough to make the map larger. Should ideally be corrected.
- The transit button of main menu is also redundant with itinerary feature and should be merged with an itinerary feature as it is not as often useful as planning an itinerary.
