Murena Maps is here in beta! Try it, and help us shape v1

Just started trying beta 6. I really wish there was a way to download much larger areas of the map. I regularly travel far enough that I would need to go through the download process many times.

Other apps allow you to download the entire state/province. I much prefer this method as an option. Being able to download maps while zoomed out much further than currently allowed would also work.

Hello @kipry

Is it possible to ad the option ā€œGpx trackā€ā€¦download and guidance…to your issue…?

Best regards

I get this error when trying to install via the quick Obtanium link:

ā€œDownloaded package ID does not match existing app ID - com.murena.maps ( e / os / Murena Maps Ā· GitLab ) [Murena Maps]ā€

I’ve since succeeded in installing via direct apk download - very impressive app so far, well done! - but it would be much better to do it via Obtanium, for updates. I want to help the beta.

How can that error be fixed?

(Fyi other apps are installing fine from Obtanium)

Version 1.0.0-beta.7-arm64

A big improvement now that the bottom menu area doesn’t take up so much of the screen, the Settings icon is better at the bottom of the screen too. I’d stopped testing because of the small size of the map, but having another look now some current thoughts are given below. (Some of these may have active issues in GitLab, but as some previously raised issues have disappeared from there I’m including everything here.)

Cosmetic issue.

  1. The search bar in the main screen is too big and feels not in proportion to the screen, covering too much of the map. It would be better not as deep, as it appears once a location is selected.

Usability - things that have previously been raised but appear not yet to be implemented.

  1. Ability to rename a Dropped Pin at the time of saving (avoiding unnecessary extra steps to do so or a lot of saved places called Dropped Pin 1, 2 etc).

  2. Ability to save a route for later use.

  3. Ability to add intermediate stops in a route.

  4. Ability to preview a proposed route on the map.

  5. Ability to download maps by regions rather than just by screen area, which is unwieldy for downloading large areas.

Timings.

  1. These still look too short and unachievable for the few known routes I’ve tested.

Offline usage.

  1. Car routing within downloaded map areas is not working, the message ā€˜We received route data we couldn’t read. Please try again’ appears. When selecting the same start / finish points in online mode routing does work. Walking, Cycling (and transit where available) are working in offline mode.
