Murena on Fairphone 6 "rooted"?

I installed murena on my brand new fairphone 6.

Everything works fine, but some apps (banking and 2FA) don’t want to start and claim my phone is “rooted”.

Here the installation procedure I followed: A clear guide to install /e/OS on your Fairphone - Guides - Fairphone Community Forum

Did I miss anything in the installation procedure ?

Can I run murena without “root” ? How ?

Any help appreciated!

Hello @alfo, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

by default, /e/OS is not a root access system

this is bad wording from them…

first question, did you relock the bootloader ?

Thanks for your reply.

Good to know murena works without root! And didn’t root it either

After the installation I just installed my usual apps, nothing crazy.

All locked it seems:

fastboot oem device-info
(bootloader) Verity mode: true
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Device critical unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: true
OKAY [ 0.001s]
Finished. Total time: 0.001s

Any idea how to get these apps working?

to solve your issue

  • a paradoxal solution is to install an App (Magisk) that allow to gain root permission for some apps, and then add some optionnal modules to hide that root is possible on the device.

  • easier is to use web version of the problematic services (+add a shortcut icon on the main phone screen)

  • replace problematic services by others, more ethic and responsable.

more complicate is

  • ask them to not “just rely” on Gogol for their security concern.

  • ask them to work with the e.foundation to find solution.

I have also done nothing with the phone (FP6 with community build) and AGOV app says I have a rooted phone.

I think there is some setting in the files which is used to create the flashable files that triggers some checks of certain apps. I use banking and also other related apps which need security and they all work, exept this one :man_shrugging::man_shrugging:

It seems you have forgotten to lock the bootloader. This happens very often, if the bootloader is unlocked. (scroll to the end, section “Locking the bootloader” ): Install /e/OS on a Fairphone The Fairphone (Gen. 6) - “FP6”

Please read all information before and check everything…

Hello @biedl, Welcome to the /e/users forum.

He did :

He followed the better documented

Even with a locked bootloader, same behaviour  I have a locked bootloader meanwhile same assumption of ‘rooted device’ by the app.

@alfo Maybe post some additional information here in the bug I created weeks ago (which didn’t get any attention from devs :slightly_frowning_face:):

Yes you are right. Have not seen the post, sometimes it is better to scroll not so fast.

I know that the unlocked bootloader is often the problem or safetynet is off in the microG settings. But this here is still in one App, so it could be the app missed some google services and classifies e/os as rooted.
