I have a Murena S9 phone running 3.7.1 and I would like to upgrade this to 4.0. However, when clicking to install the new version, I get this warning saying that it will have to do a factory reset.
Be careful if you do this upgrade, youâll no longer be able to send sms and may experience issues receiving calls, see my post where many persons have the same issue with 4.0 on galaxy S9
Could you send me a link? Iâm interested in learning why this is necessary. Nothing came up searching the forum, but discourse search isnât very good.
Thanks, but I am not doing a OTA upgrade from A12 to A15.
I would really like to know why it is necessary to do a factory reset for an upgrade from 3.7.1 to 4.0. If I was a hobbyist who flashed my own phone, I would expect this kind of thing. But the S9 is an official Murena device and I can not ask someone like my grandmother to back up their phone and reinstall everything.
Understood, but just to provide a deeper view into the issue with FDE encryption âŠ
Caution: Only devices that launched with Android 9 or lower can use full-disk encryption. Devices that launched with Android 10 or higher must use file-based encryption instead. Android 10-12 support full-disk encryption only for devices that upgraded from Android 9 or lower. Android 13 removes support for full-disk encryption entirely.
I just tried the recommended backup of apps using âPackage Managerâ, while still on 3.7.3
It is a nightmare, I find the instructions to select apps to backup are incorrect/misleading.
I would stay on 3.7.3 if I had the chance but the problem is the App lounge inevitably will stop working eventually unless you upgrade /e/ to the latest version. Not happy about this, especially since I have family abroad who are unable to follow complex instructions for upgrading.
Is there really no alternative to a full reset of the system?
PS: a suggestion - could we have an update just for App Lounge in older versions, so that it keeps working?
4.0 upgrade simply allowed this behavior with SMS sending to continue. For a couple of months BEFORE 4.0. Problem occurs sporadically, only with SMS sending. Typically, when having conversation, MEDIATEK popup says problem message not sent and the ONLY way to get it going to its destination is restart phone. After reading some of the fixes suggested, I thought maybe trying out the Next cloud option for SMS, MMS might make it necessary to follow the steps - airplane mode etc then restart phone for Sim card to catch up. The other difference with this phone would be T-Mobile being a new carrier after satellite service with previous carrier. So far, no fixes work, just MEDIATEK popping up and up and up!
Perhaps I am confused: Will upgrading to 4.0 also upgrade from A12 to A15? If I stay on A12, I am still curious why a 3.7 to 4.0 upgrade requires a factory reset.
@aibd There was o nly 32kb in the cache I cleared it but is a few kb going to fix the problem?
Also there are four mediatek apps altogether, only one ims, they all have 32 kb in their respective caches and for all, the option Force Stop is all thatâs available when you open each app. Mean anything?
