Welcome to the community.

Just to make sure:
When you plugged in the cable into the FP4, did you change (notification accessible via status bar) the USB mode from Charging to File Transfer? The default mode is charging only.

Change cable or the used port

this cable is not data transfering capable

it is a very discret notification.

so the notification in the status bar dose not appear. so i cant change to File Transfer.

I tried multiple cables now and im sure they work becouse one the FP4 of my father and brother the are working as well.

And for USB c port i allrady Substituted but the problem stays

do you mean your father’s and brother’s phones are recognized with your cable on your PC ?

yes that’s what I meant

Can you take one of their USB module, and put it into your device to test ?

Yes, I did it on your hint, but unfortunately that didn’t bring any success.

In addition, I have now saved my data via a cloud and reset the phone once to factory settings. But even that didn’t improve anything.

Could it be that another part in the phone is damaged that I have to replace?

… just so that you don’t dismantle the phone unnecessarily can you (or have you) test on another PC and prove that one Android behaves fine and your FP4 is different?

yes I have tested the mobile phone on different PCs and different cables and also tested the identical Fairphone for control and it seems to be a special problem of my FP

(Maybe depends where you bought it with regards to repair) but If you already tried Factory reset you might roll back to Fairphone Android https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-How-to-manually-install-Android-on-your-Fairphone to see if the problem persists there. ??

On the site is no Android 14 version for FP4, which I currently use and besides, I can’t connect the phone to the pc, which is supposedly a prerequisite for the installation manually

Of course, sorry. I never used it but is there any chance Wireless adb might work.

I also have this problem. I set “USB controlled by” to “Connected device” and it says “Couldn’t switch” after a few seconds. Tried different cables, ports, devices.

On one Linux device it logs the following when the phone is plugged in:

Jan 1 11:31:38 laptop6 kernel: [217140.658009] ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: UCSI_GET_PDOS failed (-95)

I’ve had the problem for at least 6 months.

Fairphone 4 5G

3.3-a14-20251210556409-official-FP4

I have the same release installed and have the same problems.

The choice for activating the USB-connection is not present at all. Plugging in an USB-stick, the stuck is recognized:

unplugging the stick and plugging the FP4 to the computers, everything stays grey!

Within Win11 vor Win10 the FP4 does not appear in the device manager.

Plesse no discussions about cables. My other phones work with the cables I used.

Best regards

additional remark: tried my phones connecting to one of my Raspberry Pi 5s. The other two i tried could connect to the RPi5, FP4 with /e/OS3.3 a14 can’t!

It seems that the service ist not provided correctly by /e/OS3.3 !

I have the same issue, greyed out option for data transfer in USB settings. I’m pretty sure this is an /e/OS issue.

/e/OS version 3.3.a14-20251210556409-official-FP4

The bahaviour is different within /e/OS!

You have to got to developer options / standard USB configuration. The button stays at “no data transfer”? Then choose “file transfer” and all options will be possible. In fact this is not “file transfer” as standard USB, but you are able to choose this then.

I am more thinking it is a cable or USB port issue.

NO.

Please read what I wrote and try!

The “cable-answers” are unnecessary. It is definitely a inconsistency to my other phones and can be fixed within “developer settings/standard USB configuration”
