I like to a some more detials in this topic. The SoC manufacturers of phones are also contacted to fetch GPS data. As that is on firmware level e/OS phones probably still do that.
two things iâd like to have for the operating system:
the ability to add other open-source repositories to the app-lounge. one of the first things i did on my new phone was install droid-ify
move the preinstalled apps to fdroid or similar so they get updated automatically. maybe at the same time move to standard thunderbird for the email client?
and for murena cloud, i think iâm looking for a more standard nextcloud set-up. things i use on my current nextcloud are:
cospend shared with my partner
share calendar with my partner
share folders and files with my partner
maybe you could add family accounts or similar? at the moment iâm not sure if i can share a calendar with another user and i canât see a way to install new apps on murena cloud
I understand that simplicity is the concept with the bliss launcher, Iâd still appreciate it if:
the option to have some kind of app drawer / library to organize your homescreen a little more (there are apps which are rarely used or simply work in the background so who needs them on the homescreen) and
keeping spaces on the homescreen (arrange the apps freely)
No you canât. Iâve tried them all, and they are confusing and bad, some of them donât even backup. There should be some unified backup for /e/OS, or of Lineage that I donât know of, but all the garbage is unusable, because itâs not specifically written for /e/OS.
Back in the day there were simple solutions, just copy partitions via TWRP, but now it doesnât work, I donât know why, for example TWRP cannot decrypt /e/OS partitions even after putting correct unlock pattern.
First of all, let me.be very clear that Iâm super happy with /e/os so far! I come from 14 years of full Apple integration and have been gradually migrating to more privacy focussed options (Proton suite, Signal,âŚ).
I was super surprised by the clean OS experience that /e/is provides, privacy options and and battery life has increased greatly. Overall all my apps are working (except 1 banking app). Canât say Iâm missing anything except a privacy focussed wallet app
I would like my banking app (Boursorama) to work, without too many work arounds (was working on Pixel 8a with community build, not pixel 8 official build)
I would like a wallet app that doesnât need Google services and that allows me to pay securely in store
I would like Android auto or a new privacy focussed alternative to function easily without Google services and multiple complex work arounds
I would like a native TTS engine that is better understandable
Murena cloud integration / migration could be smoother, I have been having issues with photo migration (>50000), tasks cannot sync/connect with account and contacts are being deleted automatically
Murena password manager with 2FA integrated
Havenât updated the OS yet, but hoping this is OTA without complex manipulations on Official build
For me, at the moment, I am really happy with /e/OS on the new FairPhone.
My biggest wish is for all of Murena Cloud to be E2E encrypted (I believe only the Vault is at present). At the moment it seems that Murena staff are able to access my data (including photos, contacts), plus anyone who happens to hack into it. So I have 2FA on, but would love to see see the full service E2E encrypted.
