No Face Unlock on Fairphone 6?

Hi,

According to Fairphone, the v6 should have Face Unlock:

But in /e/OS settings I can find only Fingerprint unlock. Since the Fairphone is sold with /e/OS pre-installed for a couple euros more (at least, it’s what I bought), I assumed that all the public features were present, but it seems this one hasn’t been implemented.

I didn’t find any information on internet about that. Does anyone have some information about this?

Hello,

I have also a Murena FP6 /e/OS/ 3.6. I confirm that there is no option for face unlock provided in /e/OS/ on this phone. I don’t know for the others.

According to this Fairphone topic, face unlock is less secure than finger print on this phone on Android stock because it is software based.

Right, it’s software based according to Fairphone, but it could be useful for instance to unlock the screen handless (e.g. in the car), while the fingerprint could continue to secure banking apps and so…

In the end it’s the user’s choice, not sure why this feature has been discarded in /e/OS.

And even worse, the fingerprint unlock is unreliable. Every second instance it does not react (at all) or I push too hard on the sensor (which is also the power button), which leads to the necessity to enter the PIN code :frowning:

Sorry to hear that. I personally don’t have any problem with my brand new Fairphone 6 naked. It’s a bit more difficult since I bought a thick phone case (this one), but after a couple of days I’m now used to it.

If you have the same phone, it should work as well. Maybe ask someone else to try your fingerprint unlock, and if you both have the problem then post a request to Fairphone…

For the most part I got a workaround by training an additional finger, the LEFT middle finger, with a focus on the flat finger, not the tip. Simply because when I grab the FP6 (in it’s original FP protective case) that finger already lands spot on the sensor. This works in 90-95% of all cases.

I agree, I would also like to see face unlock available on the FP6 under eOS. Does anyone know if it is going to appear in the future?

Same here, found it a big disappointment to discover that it was not available.
ATM i’m still using an iPhone 17 next to my FP gen. 6 but little things like this makes it harder to make the switch.
