Not being able to mute group texts is a problem

I have a fairphone 4 with Murena eOS 3.7.1 running on it.

The phone got added to a gpup text recently, but they kept texting during workhours. I tried muting the group by going to the group details>notifications>notifications and trying to set it to silent. However, eventhough the button shows it is un pressable. Further customising the notification vibration or sound is not helpfull.

So to solve it I blocked the group. This however caused my phone to block all the individual number in the group. So now if any of my friends texts me they are blocked. On top of this their number is not showing up as blocked untill they text me. Now I have had numerous problems where I wasn’t aware of being texted because I didn’t know a number had been blocked.

I can’t unblock the groupchat for the same reason it was blocked in the first place. I asked the owner if they could remove me, but deleting the chat is the only option and they don’t want to do that.

There needs to be a way to silence the group chat, and blocking a chat shouldn’t cryptically block every number in the chat.

the issue is that Messages itself as system default app cannot by muted. It looks to me as qksms would be able to offer per-conversation muting if the app itself can be muted - Cannot change default Messages (text app) notification settings to silent

(qksms isn’t being worked on anymore, /e/OS probably needs to switch messages apps longterm, QUIK, as a qksms fork itself, is a contender)
