OP-Mobiili banking app warns about non-Play store apps and closes

I upgraded my FP5 to /e/os 4.0 earlier this week. Since then, I’ve experienced an issue with my OP-mobiili banking app that at launch presents a pop-up on top of the app thar says (freely translated) “your device may contain an unreliable app that compromises the usage of OP-mobiili. The app has been installed from elsewhere than from an official app store. If you want to keep using OP-mobiili, turn off or remove the unreliable app”. Options are then to click on “read more” and “OK”, which both end up closing the OP-mobiili.

The “read more” option leads to their website which says there could be apps that are not installed via Play store, and could be tracking (or worse) the user, that are causing the issue. And all kinds of tips how to check this with Google Play.

As the OP-mobiili worked until now, and I have installed only the Xbox app recently, and I could not find any obvious (FOSS) non-system program or app, and my antivirus scan also came up with nothing, I suspect the “unreliable app” might be one of the /e/OS system apps.

I wonder if you can reproduce and eventually solve this issue, as workability of banking apps is quite imperative.

Op-mobiili is working fine for me on One plus 11, e/os 4.0. So could it be phone/installed app problem after all?

I have had this issue once and it was related to an app that required accessibility (Saavutettavuus) permission.

Maybe you could check if turning off accessibility permissions for certain apps could solve this issue?

Thanks @Ahappo and @SalmonSnake for suggestions! The only app that has elevated rights, but I didn’t try to turn off was my antivirus/security app. When I disabled that, then the OP-mobiili worked again. So indeed it was another app!

The antivirus offers also VPN but disabling that or trying different locations didn’t have an effect, and I tried also disabling specific protections from it. But only turning the whole app off worked.
