Photo Apps do not work - permissions are not available

Dears,

I like taking pictures with my camera and phone.
When installing and using two apps that are part of paid photo editing tools, i stumbled upon a strange issue. I tried “Luminar Neo” and “ON1”. Both apps start, login works and all looks fine until you want to edit a photo. The pictures you select will not load.
You see the menu buttons etc but the pictures will not be shown for edit.
Then i checked what rights these app have and to my suprice, there was no request by both apps for media access, storage etc. Hence i guess this is not working in the app.

For " Lightroom", a editing tool i use since long…these rights have been asked and granted.

As i find it hard to believe that both other apps of paid services (Luminar and ON1) are both faulty, maybe it is an e/os/ issue.

Any idea from within the community?

Happy to learn from you guys.

anything unusual about where you save your photos, on external storage (sdcard) ?

Nothing unusual as it is a pixel 5…no SD card;)

ON1 Photo

was a 50mb download so I gave this a try (vs Luminar 500mb) on /e/OS v3.1.4 in Android 15

The pictures you select will not load.

Have no issues importing media from Gallery or Device or making a photo actively though the app.

An app doesn’t need the all-encompassing media+photo permissions nowadays to access media, the selective permission model improved in Android significantly. I can explain more but I think the issue is elsewhere.

Thanks!

I can not See the pictures but i also tried ON1. Same story. I am still running Android 13 3.1.4. Maybe that is the issue.

Thanks for the advice.

What do you mean with “can not see”? Taken pictures are not visible in the stock Gallery app? This has been known a problem for years. The Gallery app and the internal scanner (used for finding new pictures) seem to be rather slow, unusable for viewing of just now taken pictures. The solution is: take another image viewer. Try Aves (from F-Droid).

No,

I am referring to the apps mentioned. Luminar Neo and ON1. Both are “ similar “ from the idea to Lightroom. Lightriom works great. The others do open and allow me to select pictures but…they never get visible nor I can edit them.just a black screen.
