Pixel 7a (lynx) – Installation of /e/OS from Android 17

Hello,

I would like to migrate my Google Pixel 7a (lynx) from stock Android to /e/OS.

My Pixel 7a is currently running the latest stock Android 17 firmware:

  • Device: Google Pixel 7a (lynx)

  • Android version: 17

  • Build: CP2A.260705.006

  • Android security update: 5 July 2026

The current /e/OS installation documentation for the Pixel 7a states that the device should be running the latest Android 16 firmware before installing /e/OS.

Before downgrading my device from Android 17 to Android 16, could you please confirm:

  1. Can the current /e/OS A16 Community build for the Pixel 7a be safely installed directly from the stock Android 17 firmware CP2A.260705.006?

  2. If not, is downgrading the Pixel 7a to the latest stock Android 16 firmware still the officially recommended procedure before installing /e/OS?

  3. Are you planning to provide an installation/migration path allowing Pixel 7a users already running stock Android 17 to install /e/OS without first downgrading to Android 16?

  4. If such support is planned, is there an approximate release timeframe?

I would prefer to follow the official e Foundation procedure strictly rather than perform an unnecessary firmware downgrade.

Thank you for your assistance.

I’m also interested in an answer of this quenstions, because in want to help a friend to install /e/OS on a Pixel 7a.

Well, I don’t have all the answers but as a starting point you could cross reference with the LineageOS wiki, because /e/OS is based on that OS.

It is stated there that you need A16 and that this is not an error:
Install LineageOS on lynx | LineageOS Wiki

So, to be safe, I would advise to downgrade before installing /e/ on your device.

Have a try and please share feedback.

Hi

I don’t know with pixel 7a, but with 6a, there’s no anti-rollback protection for the moment with Android 17, downgrade to stock 16 is available in android flash tool.

So, if i’ts same for pixel 7a, you can downgrade then follow instructions to flash /e/

If I understand it right, the e/OS devs are working on the next upgrade to lineage OS 23+ which is Android 17 (hope I do get this right). @Manoj wrote sth about this, IIRC. If this is the case, I would rather recommend to wait! I did this some months ago during another upgrade when I bought a new phone.

You need to try the android flash tool and see if you can downgrade to A16, if you can go that way. You need a Chrome based browser, I have used Edge, the tool can be found here:
