Pourquoi ce choix de Qwant ? Why Qwant?

Hello,

Cette question me turlupine depuis le début donc je me décide enfin à la poser.

Étant donné les affaires et controverses autour de Qwant et ses créateurs, ce choix dans /e/OS m’interroge.

Personnellement j’utilise de toute façon Firefox et duckduckgo depuis des lustres, mais je veux bien des éclaircissements, si quelqu’un en a.

I’ve been wondering this since the very beginning and I’m asking at last.

Considering the controversies and affairs which Qwant and its creators have been facing, I find this choice quite odd.

I’ve been using Firefox and duckduckgo for ages anyway, but if anyone have some intel I’d be happy to read.

are you asking murena or random users?

qwant is France incorporated, as is murena. That is probably a factor. Scandal ridden Leandri is out and OVH Klaba bought it off in '23.

Technically it’s good enough and doesn’t have a 1:1 EU competitor. Haven’t heard yet by what percentage their own index is used yet if at all (Ecosia joint venture) vs bing. Besides ddg, there’s a few alternatives, some even EU, but most will not have their own crawlers and index. With users chatting increasingly to LLMs for research, I wonder where this will go.
