You can at first install the free version. This allows you then to buy the pro version from inside, it’s on the right most of the settings screens (if I remember right). It’s indeed not easy to find and to understand but you can do an ordinary buying and paying (using a credit card or PayPal) there. After you paid you are verified again and then you have the pro version.

The pro version is not a special download, it’s just an addition (a license) in the configuration.

And note: this process of buying a pro version is limited to a concrete device. This means you can’t by a pro version for another device. Or in other words: each pro version must be bought from it’s own concrete device.

You can in fact upgrade to the pro version on another device once you have paid. Clicking on ‘buy pro’ will take you to a website where you can enter details of the original purchase and be given an activation code for the new device.

Thanks! But it seems not to work that way. I had the pro version working for about a yeat on this phone and on my FP3 for nearly five years but when i click buy on the installed version i get an error claiming im not logged on in play store even if i am. Even reinstalled logged on losing all logged on accounts.

Tell me the trick to get the pro version working on /e/os

Try the free version from F-Droid. Hope this will not link to the Play Store.

Ah, it must be different if you get it through the Play Store. I downloaded it from F-Droid and paid for the upgrade through the developer’s website.

it is indeed: FairEmail - support

the Developper is a very nice and helpful person actually
and Yes, the payment options for the github/fdroid versions appear somewhat tricky but it works well and the “license code” can be regained whenever needed for a new install on a new device for instance…

edit: according to @eOSPC92 ‘s post below

But there is no play store on /e/os is there?

When you search with App Lounge you have 3 search options.

APPS … is from Playstore
OPEN SOURCE
WEB APPS

One could search F-Droid direct but these images show the ability of App Lounge to differentiate the source.

Image 1 shows App Lounge picking from OPEN SOURCE

Image 2 shows App Lounge picking from APPS … is from Playstore

Hi,

I have got pro features working with e/OS as @obacht told.

You must download and install the Github version apk which is the only one compatible with the pro features on /e/OS. The way to activate the features is explained through links embedded in the software parameters tab related to pro features if I remember right.

You receive automatically a notitification when a new version is available in Github. You have only to download and install again the software. I just do it a couple of days ago without problem.

Thanks for pointing that out, I have the Github-version installed ever since but only assumed the F-Droid-version would be similar in terms of pro features…

I don´t want the free version. Sorry.

Unfortunately clicking Buy does not get me to a website

I’ve already installed the one from Apps . It is the free version and clicking on buy from within the app I got an error. So that is not it, sorry

I now installed the github version and clicking on buy now I’m now directed to https://activate.faircode.eu which to me is incomprehensible

  • i can not select Play store, though which I buight a license
  • Bitcoins, I don’t believe in bitcoins
  • PayPal/Creditcard (try not to use payment providers outside the eu) or
  • Bank transfer

With the later I see a long number und Challange/puzzle for sent instruction and a last name/date of transfer field but no where instruction how to actually pay.

The andoid replacement /e/os is ok but these are show stoppers.

There is an FAQ, I think that this entry may address your question: FairEmail - FAQ#117
The author mentions

You can’t restore purchases with microG

but App Lounge does not rely on microG for the purchases (I think).

However, the author also adds

If you cannot restore a purchase, please contact me via this contact form, mentioning the email address of the Google account used for the purchase.

You are right, this page is for getting the licence code after the purchase.
The donation/licence purchase information can be found on this page: FairEmail - Donate

As you have purchased the app via Google Play, I hope that the developer can restore your licence. Or you donate via bank transfer again - I have done so a couple of years ago for XPrivacy Lua Pro, M66B’s donation system works without problems.

May be. But probably it would still be a good idea to install it, also for you, because this is the key for the pro version. Indeed it is already the pro version (just with some features hidden).

Look, the folks here (me included) can explain it for you, we cannot understand it for you.

I’m not sure what I did or if even the magic hands of Marcel where involved (in that case: Thank you Marcel!) but I got it working. We will never know how or why it did not work in the first place (just clicking Buy… did not do it. But I’m happy.

Thanks for all the advice here!
