Question about micro G, data security, and new Google settings in the app

I looked in vain for the “micro G Services” tab, which I believe was there before.

I had actually set up the device to have a “Google-free device.” I had disabled micro G Services as much as possible. That’s why I was surprised that I couldn’t find the service in the settings, let alone disable it.

There is still an app called “micro G Companion”—but it isn’t directly connected to micro G Services.

I actually wanted to be anonymous (in relation to Google).

Now I noticed in the settings that under System > App Compatibility > Google Accounts, a new tab had been added with the latest system updates. Or was that there before?

In App Compatibility itself, Google Device Registration is set to “On.” I don’t remember turning that on.

Does that mean my device is registered with Google? If so, I might as well just log into my Google account here. Please let me know if anyone here knows the answer.

On top of that, there’s Device Attestation (Device Registration is turned on), but at the bottom it says Status: Not Registered.

I’m completely lost here.#

didn’t notice myself, the “microG” system settings entry was renamed to “App Compatibility” in a recent version.

I don’t remember turning that on.

Defaults are to enable most of the options, so you’d need to remember to actively having things turned off. It would be a bug if they turn back on (after updates).

I can explain some or most of the options, but if your intent is to be “google free” categorically, I’d just turn it all off?

with some device identifiers, but no personal account, in any case your connection ip - it is the precondition to be addressable with cloud-messaging.

yes, all microG. licensing requests can also be done on “free apps”, but it too helps users that want to use a Google Account and linked/bought Apps.

if there’s an account attached, apps that are “free” will be listed in that account install history
