Retrieve email password

Hello,

I have a working e.email account on my phone which runs /e/ OS and I want to access the emails from my desktop machine, too.
However, I don’t remember the email password anymore. Where is it stored on the phone and how can I retrieve it?

Many thanks in advance!

You have to reset it

Pl follow the instructions given here and reset the password

Thanks for helping, but sorry, these do not answer my question.

For clarification: I can access my emails from my phone and I want this to be the case in the future. I do not want to “reset” my account. I’m afraid if I do so, I’ll be asked some kind of “security question” which I won’t recall anymore and then my email account will be locked permanently. I don’t want this.

I do not know my password anymore, but I would like to retrieve it from my phone. Since my account on my phone is still working. I assume the password must be stored somewhere on my phone. In which file is the password stored on my phone?

NO chance. Not in cleartext.

Reset your password. If you did it correctly, you wrote down a secondary email adress to recover the password.

What if not? How can i keep using my account while also accessing it from another machine? Is there some sort of access token which I could copy to my laptop computer? How does the phone authenticate when it connects to the server?

I give up…good bye…to laborious

Sorry I don’t know all the technical details about how this works. In fact, this is the reason I’m writing in this forum. If I already had paramount knowledge, I wouldn’t ask questions.

My understanding may be naive, but I thought the phone must have some way to authenticate at the server, even if the PW isn’t stored in cleartext. It may sound silly for an expert like you @kisman172 , but I thought since I have control over the phone, I could just copy this means of authentication to another device I control (in principle).

I interpret your answer as saying this is a ridiculous idea. I’m sorry for my ignorance. I didn’t want to bother you. I simply didn’t know.

@Manoj sorry for bothering you again but do you know what happens if I click on “reset” and then my backup email address is some made-up address I can’t access? Will I lose access to my account then? If so, is there a way to find out what’s my backup email address before starting the reset process?

I don’t want to risking losing access to my account my resetting it without previously knowing if it will work.

The admins have the possibility to reset your password. Then you can reset it in the config center to a password of your choice.
Or you can find your backup email address
Both options, no data will be lost.
You just have to make them believe that you are the owner of the account.
Contact @Manoj

And please, believe me. There is no other way. I say no more here…

Ok, thanks a lot for the help – much appreciated! I’ll backup my mails elsewhere first and then try as you suggested. Will probably do that beginning of the week.

A reset will clean all the data on your phone. This will include any account you would have set up. Take a back up of any data you have. In case you would like to know what the backup email was Pl send a mail to support@e.email . The database team should be able to check and let you know your backup mail ID
