Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e LTE (gts4lv): cannot upgrade from /e/OS 3.0.4 A14 to 3.0.4 A15

Hello!

My Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e LTE (gts4lv) is currently running /e/OS community 3.0.4 A14.

When I try to install /e/OS community 3.0.4 A15 from https://ota.ecloud.global/community/gts4lv/e-3.0.4-a15-20250713508366-community-gts4lv.zip using ADB, I get the following error messages:

ERROR: recovery: Current SPL: 2025-06-05 Target SPL: 2025-06-01 this is considered a downgrade
ERROR: recovery: Denying OTA because it’s SPL downgrade

Does anyone know a solution?

It sounds like you are using the a14 Recovery when the a15 recovery is required.

If you are concerned you might compare those two dates and the Android SPL diff of a14 and a15. Release notes Releases · e / os / 🚀 Releases · GitLab point to Android Security Bulletin—June 2025  |  Android Open Source Project but the page includes wording as

SPL-June

leading to this request for better info Please put the complete date of the security patch date in the release notes

So, updating the recovery first then the OS should work, right?

Yep, that worked:

  1. heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery-e-3.0.4-a15-20250713508366-community-gts4lv.img
  2. Reboot to recovery and start ADB
  3. adb sideload e-3.0.4-a15-20250713508366-community-gts4lv.zip

Thanks a lot!

Please have a sound backup before any intervention.

The official advice to upgrade Android version is to treat it as a fresh install with Format data. /e/ Documentation no longer includes Upgrade pages, but sometimes looking at the Lineage wiki we find an upgrade as this Upgrade to a higher version of LineageOS (e.g. lineage-20 → lineage-22.2). (Please note this is not the actual upgrade you plan but shows what the devs intend.)

The above page certainly includes use of latest Recovery.

What is referred to on the forum as dirty upgrade is

“follow /e/OS Install page but omit Format data”.

You can do it quicker than I can respond !

I dirty flashed, and so far, it seems to be working.

Only the shortcuts/navigation bar at the bottom is off/too small, but I can live with that. It’s not (yet) worth the hassle to format data and start again.

Is a reported a15 issue.

So do I. My gts4lv is working finely after a dirty flashing.
As said the 3 button mode is not working and I have to switch to gesture mode.
I have also switch on the ‘display taskbar’ setting to avoid flickering of small icon at the bottom of the screen.
