Screen suddenly has crazy colors and affects

I’ve been using /e/os/ on my old moto G7 for a couple of weeks, all has been good, that is until today when suddenly the graphics went wacky. Suddenly things are pretty scrambled up and have wild colors. After resetting the phone everything looks good, but when I lock the screen and unlock it, suddenly it’s crazy again. I tried to do a screen shot, then copied it to my computer, and the crazy colors and such are totally gone. In addition if I view the phone using scrcpy over USB connected to my computer, it also looks fine there.

any ideas?! Running version 3.5 of e/os/

This would imply a screen hardware defect as the /e/OS display output is being read correctly by scrcpy.

If you boot into Fastboot mode does the screen perform correctly?

While not absolute certainty … and the Fastboot screen is a more simple display … if Fastboot screen is also affected it would, I think, tend to rule out the problem coming from /e/OS software.

as you can see here, it’s fine on first boot.

I addressed only the srccpy observation. Anything intermittent I guess one needs to collect information as to what switches the problem on and off.

Is the observation reproducible, every time, mostly, sometimes … any other time the phone runs fine.

100% of the time it seems to be reproducible. Maybe I can plug it into the computer and collect some logs…

This is the support page for adb logcat Capture a debug information from /e/OS note there are two different methods described.

An observation re first boot, the screen hardware is “fresh” or “cold” as opposed to “normal running” in the broadest sense. Can you possibly tell whether the display degrades with some particular action, or time running, or a connection with display timeout.
