Hi,
two days ago the Signal app has been updated. Since then the background process is not working anymore. I.e. the background connection icon does not appear any more and messages only appear when the app is active. Is this a general/known issue? Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything useful on the Signal community so it might be some compatibility issue with /e?

bei mir war es andersherum. Nach dem Update war bei mir das Symbol in der Statusleiste, was vorher nicht war da deaktiviert.
Vielleicht hat das Update bei dir auch die App-Einstellung geändert.
Schau mal nach, wenn noch nicht geschehen, ob in den Einstellungen die Hintergrundnutzung auf optimiert steht statt auf uneingeschränkt.
You might try to use Molly instead of the official Signal app. It’s open source and uses UnifiedPush for notifications.
It’s been working flawlessly on my Murena FP6 for months now.
My Signal just updated also. I have never notice anything telling me it’s running in the background (it just is) and I am getting messages fine on Signal. I do have a different phone than you.
Did you do a reboot since the update?
Ich habe alle Einstellungen geprüft. Sowohl die Hintergrundnutzung als auch die Benachrichtigungen darüber sind weiterhin erlaubt. Was mich wundert: Ich finde keine Einstellung mehr für die optimierte/uneingeschränkte Nutzung. Auf dem alten Gerät hatte ich genau diese Einstellung auch wegen ähnlicher Probleme vorgenommen, nur kann ich mich nicht mehr erinnern, wo ich die gefunden hatte.
There is a setting if the background usage is notified. Maybe this is disabled on your device? On my device it is set to notify me as it used to be.
Yes, I did reboot the system several times in the meantime.
Did you get that via F-Droid? Because App Lounge doesn’t find it here.

Bei mir folgendermaßen: Apps dann alle Apps dann Signal dann Akkunutzung der App dann Hintergrundnutzung zulassen jeweils drauf klicken.

Update: Another app update came in today and it seems that the issue has been fixed - at least the background activity notification is back. Still wondering that the bug did not affect all devices.
Yep, that’s what their web site tells me. Still I’m not able to find it in the App Lounge. Maybe there’s another issue beyond that…
Die Einstellung hatte ich schon gefunden - und die Hintergrundnutzung war hier die ganze Zeit aktiv. Ich erinnere mich aber, dass es auf meinem alten Gerät tatsächlich noch eine andere Einstellung gab, um zwischen “optimierter” und vollständiger Akkunutzung zu wechseln. Die finde ich partout nicht mehr.

Update 2: Unfortunately, the background connection only works whenever it wants. Sometimes messages come in directly. But yesterday I also had messages that appeared more than one hour later when I activated the app. Very strange…
I’m having the same issue. The background connection was working fine until recently. Now the background connection setting is still enabled and persistent notification is still there, but it doesn’t work. I usually only get new messages when I open the app, or sometimes a notification gets triggered a lot later (1h+).
I installed it through the Aurora Store and the issue has persisted throughout the past few updates.
I have a lot of crashes of Signal, in the background (reported by LogFox) with my FP5. This is after I’ve installed /e/OS 3.7.3. However, Signal seems to work find though. I do get notifications. I’m not a power user for Signal and only get occesionally some messages.
Öffne die Einstellungen, dann “Apps”. Dort “Signal” wählen und “Akkunutzung der App” öffnen, dann auf den Text (nicht den Schalter!) “Hintergrundnutzung zulassen” tippen. Dort kannst du wählen, ob die Hintergrundnutzung optimiert oder uneingeschränkt erfolgen soll.
Danke! Der Text war der entscheidende Hinweis. Tatsächlich ist die uneingeschränkte Nutzung hier aber schon ausgewählt - daran liegt’s also anscheinend nicht.
Wie gesagt - die Kombination aus Molly und UnifiedPush über das integrierte ntfy von e/OS läuft bei mir seit Monaten stabil.
Sorry for the delay, but there are finally some good news: After both /e and the app have been updated everything seems to work again. Unfortunately, both updates were active on the same day so I still cannot figure out which part caused the issue.
