Signal on Murena FP6 issue : Outgoing Video and Mic blocked

Hi There,

I am experiencing issues using Signal on my Murena Fairphone 6 and Signal Desktop on my Macbook Monterey (12.7.6).

Though properly linked and updated on both devices, when I call a contact, I can see and and hear them, but they can’t hear and see me. And it happens systematically, in spite of mic and video being authorised on the other side, so the problem is on my side.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? All advice and help is most welcome.

Thank you in advance for your time and your attention.

Best,

GC

Is it possible to go into Signal permissions to check that the app has microphone and camera permissions? Maybe if happening on two different systems this permission is oddly located (??).

I would expect on your phone Settings > Apps > See all apps > Signal > Permissions.

Aibd,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’ve checked Signal’s settings and mic and camera are authorized on my macbook. Also, I’ve been able to establish a Signal video connection from my Murena phone to an iphone and Signal desktop works between my Murena phone and a Microsoft laptop, but it still doesn’t work on the macbook. Maybe it’s linked to the MacOS version (12.7.6) on the macbook.

In the link below I see

To use the Signal desktop app, Signal must first be installed on your phone.

My emphasis, was this your starting point?

Aibd, thank you for your reply. Yes, I have started with Signal on my Murena phone and then downloaded the desktop version on my Macbook and linked the two devices if I understand your question correctly

Then I find a section of support topics including
Edit rather a big page, now a more precise paragraph link:

aibd,

Thank you! That was useful. I checked the settings in the system preferences under the tab “Privacy” and there are no applications mentioned as having requested access to the camera and the microphone ?

Are these sections more appropriate? You may need to see them on the page on a larger screen for context (??)

macOS: Choose the Apple menu  > System Preferences > click Security & Privacy > select Privacy > Select Camera > Select the checkbox next to Signal. Signal will need to restart for this setting to apply

macOS: Choose the Apple menu  > System Preferences > click Security & Privacy > select Privacy > Select Microphone > Select the checkbox next to Signal. Signal will need to restart for this setting to apply.

MacOS is a big subject and I have no experience (only prejudice).
