I’ve been meaning to mention an issue with my Motorola phones that’s hasn’t been solved since the past 6 months of builds, as I heard that e/OS 4 will soon be released so I wanted to raise awareness of this issue before version 4 is released in the hope that it will be fixed in e/OS 4. Around 6 months ago after the latest e/OS update the App Lounge on my Moto G 5G Plus (Nairo) and Moto Edge 20 (Berlin) won’t update the apps. I kept assuming that it would be fixed in the following build, but each time the problem still remained and is still an issue. You can’t update apps in App Lounge. I’ve been manually updating the apps myself on Github or the official App websites. Some apps I’m unable to update manually, but most of them I was able to. These phones have been excellent over the years with e/OS, I’ve been using e/OS since 2022 on the Moto G 5G plus (nairo), and is has been excellent with rarely any issues except for one last year that was rectified (battery drain issue due to constant 5G activation). Anyway, I’m assuming that these 2 models are not the only Motorola phones having this issue. So really hoping it will be fixed in e/OS version 4. Thank you!
[Solved] Unable to update apps on App Lounge on Motorola G 5G plus (Nairo) and Moto Edge 20 (Berlin)
First clear AppLounge cache and storage,
if it’s not enough, a workaround is to use the original apps : F-droid + Aurora Store
After you Clear storage (and wait 2 - 12 hours), the App Lounge default is to
- Automatic update and
- Update apps from other sources
You might change these to “don’t” asap.
It is possible that App Lounge currently has a problem where the user’s “update list” contains an “impossible update” … an example might be where you have some Github installed app which for some reason won’t update by App Lounge.
Without Clear storage the user’s App Lounge is dysfunctional all the time the failed token from the remote server is present.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes I am aware of that problem when sometimes you update something from Github or the developer’s home page, sometimes App-Lounge won’t recognize it because the security keys don’t match or some other reason. This is not the problem, the problem is App-Lounge. I know this because there are Apps that I didn’t update at all manually or install manually, they were installed from App-Lounge originally, but they still won’t update on App-Lounge. When you push the ‘update’ button the button presses down but nothing happens, that’s the same for all Apps regardless if they were originally installed from App-Lounge or not. I can see your point about the ‘‘impossible update’’, I’ll keep that in mind. Although I have cleared the cache many times before, I don’t think that I waited 12 hours though afterwards, so I’ll give it a try, thanks for your advice! Even if this works, it still needs to be rectified by the e/OS developers though. The other thing that I want to mention is this: I had this problem starting from around six months ago, then I updated to the next build. That particular build I had ran into a issue, it deleted all of my data upon installing and did a fresh install. I thought that the App-Lounge problem would have been fixed, but nope it wasn’t, I didn’t update anything from external sources that time, and the problem was still there. I think it could be possibly unique to particular Motorola phones.
Yes I was aware of the option to use F-Droid and Aurora. I just kept thinking that the issue would be fixed in the next update, but it never is. So I guess if e/OS 4 still has this same issue, I’ll have no choice but to install F-Droid & Aurora. Thanks for your suggestion!
Hi @Stormblade please read my post and links as trying to help you.
Correct, the problem is that the user has obtained a Token from the remote server, the update has failed, the update list has not been changed by App Lounge to reflect this, the request has been repeated, the remote server is not going to do business with this device my assertion until Clear storage is done to remove the stale token, and (following six months of this repetition), a long time has elapsed for the remote server to forget this problem device.
Clear cache is irrelevant as explained above.
In short:
…
How do you explain both phones doing it though, I have a moto edge 20 and a moto G 5G plus, both have different phone numbers, both have the exact same issue? The other phone I didn’t even update from other sources for months and it still wouldn’t update.
I am able to to install apps from the app store on my Motorola Edge 2021 without issue.
Once you clear cache and storage, reboot the phone also it will then prompt to do the updates right away.
OK. I took everyone’s advice, this is what I did:-
-
I cleared the App-Lounge cache, and storage in e/OS settings.
-
I restarted the phone
-
I went into App-Lounge and then went straight to the ‘settings’ menu in App-Lounge. I unticked boxes ‘Automatically install updates’ and ‘Update Apps installed by other stores’ as the user aibd suggested above.
-
I restarted the phones again.
-
I went back into App-Lounge and went to updates. All the apps that I had installed with App-Lounge previously were there to be updated, and updated successfully.
-
I went back into the App-Lounge ‘settings’ menu in the App-Lounge app. I reticked the option ‘Update Apps installed by other stores’
-
I went back to ‘Updates’ in App-Lounge, and lo and behold all of the apps that I had installed manually from Github and the original developer’s websites were there, and I was able to update all of them successfully with App-Lounge.
This worked for both my phones the Moto Edge 20 (Berlin) and the Moto G 5G plus (nairo).
Conclusion: Problem solved! Thanks everyone for your help, you guys are awesome!
