Hi, i am having problems with installing certain apps, for example “Shell Recharge”.
I installed Android14 e/OS on my Fairphone 5, and at first i was happy that all my standard apps worked. But then i noticed more and more cases where an app in App Lounge won’t show any information when i tap on it (just a black screen with loading icon). If i tap on “install” in the overview, the button says “try again”. No further error info, nothing happens, it just does not work.
I tried it with Google account, with Anonymous, even turned off app tracker blocking in advanced privacy. But nothing helped.
Should i relock the bootloader? Is there a way to understand what exactly the problem is, like a debug mode? Can somebody maybe test installing “Shell Recharge” to confirm if the problem is only on my device? These apps that won’t install are all not open Source, but there kinda is no alternative (insurence provider), so it would be great if there is some way to fix this.
I tried Aurora Store instead of App Lounge, which is giving me more feedback.
On the Signal app it says that this is “not available for my phone”, which is weird, because it also says that it does not need Google play services. I wonder if its because i am still on android 14 (latest official e/OS). But after i set up all my banking apps, email accounts and mfa, i am really not in the mood to wipe my device again and install the community version.
I guess i’ll take the risk of bricking my phone and see if locking the bootloader helps.
I tested Shell Recharge and it installs ok for me from App Lounge, finds location accurately and gives an indication (poor topology) of fuel stations. Edit I first used A15 but I do not think it relevant; then install went fine from Aurora store on A13, in this case the app is not performing well, I think the app requires Account sign in, it was just slow to get location. Works satisfactory except again same poor topology in A13.
Shell Recharge may be handicapped in use by MapsLibre. This was mentioned in the context of topology not nicely rendered in the case of another app Tractive Tractive App and Open Street Map - #5 by tcecyk
Thank you very much for your detailed answer, and the test. I think i am going to follow the gitlab ticket in hopes this will be resolved soon.
I found an open source app for charging locations, so that would not be an problem if Shell recharge has a map related issue. But i think for payment/booking this or similar apps are also needed (never done it since i usually always charge @ home), and none of them could install so far. But besides the app-lounge bug, thats more of an infrastructure problem in my country, i guess.
