Sony XA2 H4113 - next upgrade

Hi,

During the next Christmas holidays, I will hopefully fetch my Sony XA2 H4113 again, and I would like to set it up again to make it my daily driver.

What is the best way of performing a clean install?

Since it has been used but not updated for a certain time, I am wondering if a “dirty upgrade” as discussed in Dirty upgrade to /e/OS-T is possible ! (But not for all devices) - #24 by piero and Upgrade to /e/OS 2.5t for Sony XA2 H4113 - #8 by sonyxa2 is the right method if I want to have the phone as if it was new (meaning, no leftovers from previous usage before starting saving my personal data again on it).

I really like the convenience of the installation from the /e/OS updater and a USB stick (on the contrary, I despised the first /e/OS installation from Android 8…), therefore I would be pleased to continue with that, but I would like to be sure that there is nothing left from the previous user …

Please advise. Thank you in advance

Hello @sonyxa2
i feel like you already asked for that several time in the past…

still latest SonyOS for this device is still based on android 8.0
why not taking latest /e/OS community pioneer download

and

  • simply boot to recovery, then "factory-reset" format /data and “apply-update

or

  • from settings --> system --> reset-options --> erase all data,
  • then settings --> system-updater --> 3 dot-menu --> locale-update

Hi @piero , thank you for your reply.

You are right, I am always asking because I am unsure what to do, and afraid of having to start from scratch … due to my poor practice, I cannot still forget the first installation, that was a pain to me … I was pretty happy when you suggested the “dirty upgrade” in the past :slight_smile: , as I could easily perform it.

Regarding the two options, I feel more comfortable with the second method you mentioned, since I can proceed with my usual process of updating from a USB stick, after erasing all the data as you said. If there are no difference between the two methods, I will go for the second (as soon as I get hold of the XA2).

Thank you again for you support.

Have a nice evening
