The installation instruction should add in the section “unlocking..” as point 6 (see installation for XZ2compact:
Use your code to unlock the bootloader of your device:
fastboot oem unlock <your_unlock_code>
Could it be that the section “Flashing additional partitions” is outdated and no longer necessary? Would it harm?
Compared to Sony XZ2 instructions that worked fine.
The section “Flashing additional Partitions” is necessary; the files are not in the recovery, which is an image file, and must be obtained from lineage.
After flashing the recovery, use fastboot reboot recovery to reboot (not a key combination)
The section “Ensuring all firmware partitions are consistent” does not work; skipped it with this and and XZ2compact without problems.

Something about the payload.bin. Extract with a tool like payload-dumber to get the dtbo.img and vbmeta.img.
Knowing that would have spared me some times of research.
