Every step has been perfectly done so far, but step 7 “device detection” only works halfway. the phone shows up in browser, and when I click the connect button the animation loops forever, and nothing shows up in the phone to allow. I have a brand new Fairphone 6 that has not been used for anything else other than /e/OS installer

you will economize time and effort following these :
As piero stated, the web installer is a black box we don’t know why it fails. Even trying to problem solve it, is waisted time which is better invested in manual install, which is a piece of cake after unlocking the bootloader

@cafevincent, Windows users can get stuck like this due to missing the full (includes fastboot) Drivers as [Solved] Windows does not see my phone in Fastboot mode.
