So l managed to install Rufus & Wine but it has to be an old version Rufus 3.22.2009
It seems it can take my iso file but its the device it does not see
I only got USB devices so lm trying a formatting in whatever sort of file Rufus would locate my device and agree to cooy on

Yes, Rufus only runs on Windows. Your option is to run it in Wine on Linux or copy the portable version of Rufus to USB and use a Windows computer to create the Windows USB image.

update
Seems Ventoy is the winner
I finally managed to create à windows usb key but l cant install on any partition even ntfs wich is the requirelment

you should delete the NTFS partition you had planned for Windows, to liberate free space,
Windows Install will automatically create his own various partitions (here sda1 “system” and sda2 “reserved”) in the non allocated free space.
Edit : It probably have to be at the bigining of the disk to be the major “boot”

on this picture, only sda3 “Parti_Docs” is my creation.

Well l wish

I created two partitions
1 ntfs
1 non allocated

Windows refuse them both because they are GPT ? Any idea what that is ?

I thought l would find MBR instead of GPT but there is only this…

What will work ?

Look up online (cos I don’t quite know where you are going with this) but msdos is surly the default in GParted and is bound to lead to MBR, that would be the old school way to work.

Why not

Simply as I don’t understand some of the scrapes you get into …

Do you have an old laptop, or one where this would apply

how to repair the Windows bootloader on a modern computer that uses UEFI instead of a classic BIOS and GPT disk partition table (instead of MBR).

To try to find your answer do you see UEFI in (the space of) BIOS? That is when you Boot F12 or whatever.

I think from what l read that windiws 11 would work in a gpt partition and not windows 10 so lm gonna try w11 like that

I am also trying with Msdos as it is just in case
I have BIOS and not UEFI
I have no dvd but
Im getting a windiws laptop tonight
Its a windows 8 but it should work fine l hope
Maybe l ll need to install 10 or 11 there too to installl the mi unlock app?

Well l will have tried everything…

There is no way to install windows 10… 11… or 25 on this computer and l give up

I should get a windows laptop soon and use it when needed…

I think that you have found that the whole drive is controlled by the partition table, you notice in an earlier image a warning all of ENTIRE DISK /dev/sda/ will be erased – but I think that you thought / hoped you could work on one particular partition only to create this “gpt partition”.

Also because l am afraid if l erased the whole disc and still windows would not install then l have nothing at all… Unable to reinstall ubuntu afterwards ?

But worth a thought l could maybe install ubuntu alongside after ld installed Windows…

I am also learning tutorials can get outdated and lead to dead end (for me) but probably still working for other machines…
Very complex

Virtual box is a pain in the neck, i’ve tried several time to install ubuntu on my windows laptop and windows on my ubuntu and you always run into trouble. Best idea remains to do as @piero said

Or get a windows 10 iso on their site, make a USB ISO using raspberry pi app, rufus, whatsoever and then boot on it using your BIOS.

You didn’t get it, UEFI is a type of boot that is support by high windows version such as 10 or 11 as opposed to the legacy mode, which was for previous versions. It’s not you have either a BIOS or a UEFI, it’s you have a BIOS and a boot mode.

Well l have made big progress on my end l am now using windows and lm trying to unlock xiaoml phone

The Phone connects but not the computer…
There are uninstalled drivers in the mi unlock app file extracted from download so lm installing those and restarting windows

I managed to install windows after erasing all existing partitions with Gparted through the bootable ubuntu usb key (try and not install )

@aibd what you said about all drive being controlled by the partition table made a switch in my mind…

Then l tried windows ventoy usb keys l made yesterday and windows 10 is now installed on my computer… 11 failed but it does not matter…
No more ubuntu on my computer for now…

Its the latest version of the app but does not connect…

Looks like a driver issue… Have you checked in the LOS installation guide of they don’t give you specific drivers to install ?

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/surya/install/#unlocking-the-bootloader

Ensure that your device has the appropriate drivers installed by running driver_install.exe (for 32-bit) or driver_install_64.exe (for 64-bit), which are included with Mi Unlock, otherwise, the Mi Unlock app may not detect your device.

Tried all that except the F8 that does nothing…

I think it gives me an idea of what is next…
I get my internet from my phone sim card as l dont have a box… Therefore l cannot have my sim in the xiaomi and turn it off because then no internet…

Since the mi app seems to want xiaomi sync and an email that is gmail to sync to google account l figure l neeed WIFI to proceed …

I must go tto the main house tomorrow morning and connect on the wifi box both computer & xiaomi phone with my sim in it…

Hope it works that way…i
