The UK Government is planning to issue an emergency alert to all smartphones in the UK later today. It is intended to test their ability to issue emergency alerts to locations where there is some sort of high risk to the population such as flooding, earthquakes etc. Where I live, neither of these is at all likely.
Could this simply be a strategy to locate where all the working uk smartphones are & who owns them? Or some other attack on our privacy? Should I switch off emergency alerts on my phone.
I would like to know your thoughts, or perhaps I have been a forum member for too long ![]()
Relax. The phones don’t send any kind of response. The risk here is that because the date and time of the test is public information then scammers might send out texts at the same time with dodgy links. Don’t click on any such links and you’ll be fine.

Thanks Vaughan. I thought I might be being a bit too paranoid!
My partner’s Iphone recieved tge alert at 15.00 whereas my e/os/ FP4 went off about ten minutes later.

Both of our FP5’s got the alert at about 15.00.
