Unwanted connection to google server

Hi !

I use /e/OS on a FP6, I enjoy /e/OS and its features, such as location masking and tracker blocking. Indeed, I think privacy is very important, but after setting up an interception proxy on my phone, I noticed that some default apps connect to Google domains.
For example, the Camera app connects to firebaselogging.googleapis.com, and the App Compatibility Service which is a default system app connects to mtalk.google.com.

What do you think about it and why these request aren’t blocked ?

Much of this is covered by Anonymous calls to Google servers.

Is the current name for microG.

Thanks for your reply,

I red these two resources but telemetry from camera app which connects to ```firebaselogging.googleapis.com``` is not mentioned in the official documentation, it’s not anonymous call as your IP is used to do the request and google uses it to identifiy you. I also noticed five connections from the camera app in less than a day, which seems like a lot for a simple photo app that’s supposed to work offline. I think it would be good to add this domain to the tracker blocker.

Which camera App? On recent Fairphones Murena and Fairphone made Fairphone’s stock camera App available additionally to Murena’s Open Camera fork due to user demand.

The Murena App is foundation.e.camera … Settings - Apps - Camera - (scroll to bottom)

I had to look this up as I was unaware.

If you can attribute this call to the Fairphone camera you might consider to Report an issue.

Thank you to the staff member who restored my post.

I checked the app, and it’s com.fps.camera, the Fairphone app that has now replaced foundation.e.camera on recent Fairphones Murena, how can I replace it by com.fps.camera ?

Thanks for the procedure, I’ll create an issue.

Where Moto has an “own brand” camera plus OpenCamera both are showing in the view from

Settings > Apps > All apps > 3 dot menu > Show system.

It has cropped up recently elsewhere; is this the case with current FP6?

I see foundation.e.camera.FP6 in Settings > Apps > 3 dot menu > Show system but I didn’t found option to use it instead of com.fps.camera used by default.

Hi,

You can switch the default camera of the FP6 by going to Settings > Apps

There under the General section you have an option “/e/ OS Camera” that you can click on in order to switch the default camera (see below screenshot in french)

Thank you very much Baziluz , I hadn’t noticed that option, I’ve successfully switched to the /e/ OS Camera.

Otherwise, for those who would like to continue using the Fairphone camera app, I recommend disabling the app’s network access in Settings → Apps → Camera → Data Usage.
