I recently noticed in the development and testing update a new section concerning the upgrade to A16.
In the devices “to be planned” some devices are indicated as “no update".
I don’t find the explanation very clear : “The plan is to upgrade all of them to the latest possible build. This may not be feasible for every device, as some are too old and have already reached EOL from the vendor and may not work on the latest OS versions. Devices marked “No updates” fall into this category."
Does that mean that the devices marked as “no updates” will never receive an update to A16 or that the team will look at that later as it seems complicated (as mentioned previously)?
Does anyone has a clue?
Concerned by a device of this category, I just want to be sure if I have to consider buying a new phone or if I should wait a bit before.
I’m currently on the 4.1.1. But as I understand there will be no more security updates if I’m stuck with A12. So that’s why I consider buying a new phone.
“The team expects that A16 will not be buildable or installable on some older-generation devices such as the Samsung S7 or S8. There could be more. While the team will try to OS upgrade these devices, if the attempt fail we will have to drop these devices from the supported list.”
That does not sound good for you I am afraid and a new(er) handset might be a fair idea
Fairphone 6 acheté avec e/os préinstallé , je suis sous 4.1 mais toujours en A15 la 4.2 pas reçu pour le moment . la nouvelle version apportera t’elle le A16 a mon FP ?
The update from Manoj did seem to indicate quite clearly “too difficult” (but never say never). The OTA Upgrade free of data loss is likely the big blocker.
To keep your phone in service it may be time to consider unofficial-builds
