Upgrade Samsung Galaxy S10 5G from 1.19.1-s (A12) to 3.2-t

hi team,

I’m trying to upgrade my partner’s Samsung Galaxy S10 5G from 1.19.1-s (Android 12) to 3.2-t (Android 13) and possibly even beyond without data loss.

I attempted the steps highlighted here:

I restarted manually the phone into fastboot mode and then attempted the command line:

sudo ./fastboot flash boot recovery-e-3.2-t-20251026540684-community-beyondx.img

but I’m getting the error message:

Warning: skip copying boot image avb footer (boot partition size: 57671680, boot image size: 67633152).
Sending ‘boot’ (66048 KB) OKAY [ 1.791s]
Writing ‘boot’ FAILED (remote: ‘Value too large for defined data type’)
fastboot: error: Command failed

USB Debugging is on.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Why not latest e-3.2-a15 ?

Using fastboot on a Samsung device ?

How did you do that ?

Case of beyondx

  1. Please share the baseband version
(foundable in → settings → about–> android version → baseband version)

  2. visit samfw.com

Thanks for the reply.

Baseband is

I was also curious to see that there is a fastboot option on a Samsung device. It is offered on the restart menu:

Should i go into recovery mode instead? I tried that but there doesn’t seem to be any communication been the Linux PC and the device.

you are in good situation, as according to https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G977B “E-HWC1” is the last ever published SamsungOS, so :

in recovery mode type : adb devices
in fadtbootd mode type : fastboot devices

Thanks Piero

Do you think it’s safe to go straight to A15?

Also seems like the easier option is to download on the phone and do a local update

In this case do i download the recovery image file too? Or just the newer e os version?

Thanks

hum… i always did it Net-less cause i am confident (and a bit lazy as backup android is a complicate job),

but for fearful people it is stipulate (in small letters) :

I have a backup already

But what about jumping straight to A15?

What do you mean by this? Local update? Option 1?

the recovery will be upgraded too, as it is included into the main .ZIP,
the process use the current recovery.
it is what OTA update does…

Hmmm local update is not available in the 3 dots menu. So I guess it’s booting into recovery and go for apply update

Any Opinion on this please?

because i am confident, i can perform any of the proposed methods without backup (“Net-less” is a Circus wording)

dirty upgrade is possible since android 11 because system tree have no major changes

it only exist since android 12 or 13

Aha OK gotcha

Anyway looks like i need to use sideload from my pc. The recovery doesn’t include the option to install from local file

Samsung generaly support from SDcard or from internal storage

.

.

there is no build.zip on my SDcard so it is not visible.

Probably since A13

This is what I see in the 3 dots menu

And then in Preferences:

I only get the sideload option. Is it because I’m still on 1.19?
