USB connection AND bluetooth connection do not work (FP6, /e/OS 3.3)

I have installed the latest /e/OS on a FP6 (e-3.3-a15-20251213556761-community-FP6). I cannot connect to USB on my computer. I have tried with Android File Transfer and OpenMTP. Also, USB File Transfer does not work.

  • I can activate USB file transfer on my phone
  • I CANNOT activate “USB controlled by” to “Connected Device”
  • I have checked “Always allow USB connection” on “Restrict USB” and also played around with that setting as recommended in a different thread.
  • I tried different cables, but all these should work.

On USB File Transfer on my Mac, I can attempt to send a file, but the FP6 won’t accept a connection.

Any idea what is going on, or anyone else experiencing this? The fact that both things do not work suggest to me that may be something related to connectivity and privacy is a problem, not technically USB or bluetooth.

Many thanks.

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online services

This is not a thing to aim for in connection to a PC.

On a Mac Android file transfer used to be the thing to use but discontiued.

Is the presence of different “Default USB Preferences” complicating things? Is set from Developer options.

Is your problem purely with Mac?

There is a readme here GitHub - ganeshrvel/openmtp: OpenMTP - Advanced Android File Transfer Application for macOS but you say you tried that.

Same with my FP4.

My FP4 running /e/OS 3.3 android14 release dec 2025, does not get a connection to PCs running Win10 or 11, respectively.

If I attach a USB-stick (See above Screenshot), the USB-part within the settings/connection appear. If I leave that open and unplug the stick and plug in the cable to the computers everything stays grey for the USB-choices (See below Screenshot)

There is definitely no entry in the device manager for the FP4.

Please no answers to the cable! I’m programming since 1980. - my other phones work with these cables I used.

Help appreciated,

Thank you. I haven’t touched this problem over the winter break, and now (2 weeks later) USB file transfer (using OpenMTP software on Mac) suddenly works. Same cable. No idea why, but this problem doesn’t persist any longer. Equally, bluetooth file transfer works. This may have been some issue with permissions.

You are probably well aware of Default USB setting (or so) in Developer options? Can be set to no data transfer.

Thx.

In fact the behavour of the “Default USB setting” is different to the other phones. The others have the same “default”-value of “no data transfer”, but within /e/OS there is no chance to set it to other types via the drop down menu if connected! Only if “default value” is chosen to data transfer you are able to switch (!!!) to data transfer. It does not connect to the computer providing the directories until you change to data transfer!

Not very logic.
