I’m unsure about VoLTE, since I don’t know how to test that; VOLTE may work or won’t (any ideas to test this are welcome, but that’s not the important topic here).
Concerning VoWiFi, I can state the following:
This worked without any problems with ArrowOS 11 installed on the Poco X3 NFC and my current provider, so the device itself in general is capable of supporting VoWiFi, as well as the provider.
I have enabled VoWiFi (in German: “WLAN-Telefonie”) in the /e/OS’ system settings; see screenshot.
Enabled Wi-Fi and ensured that it connects correctly.
Tested that Wi-Fi is working by browsing some websites.
Tried to make a call.
Still, VoWiFi doesn’t work, as shown in the next screenshot: Although I have Wi-Fi clearly enabled and connected (as also indicated by the Wi-Fi symbol in the right side of the status bar), the system is telling me that I have to “turn off Airplane Mode or connect to a Wi-Fi network to make a call (original message in German : “Deaktiviere zum Telefonieren den Flugmodus oder stelle eineWLAN-Verbindung her.”).
So although one of the required condition is clearly fulfilled (being connected to aWi-Fi network), this doesn’t seem to be recognized by the system.
For me, VoWiFi is often important in situations where I don’t have a connection to a cell tower but a Wi-Fi network, e.g. in reinforced concrete buildings (very common situation) or in remote areas at friends’ homes that have a wired internet connection and Wi-Fi.
Is anyone able to help?
Have I overlooked some important setting?
Are there any other experiences regarding VoWiFi with latest /e/OS (currently 3.6-a15-20260313593828-community-surya) running on the Poco X3 NFC?
Is there a chance to open a bug ticket somewhere (e.g. if the code was hosted on GitHub or GitLab)?
if VoLTE works it’d be weird for VoWifi not to work if the provider can do it.
There’s vowifi / wificall issues in the backlog with a bit of debugging instructions and lots of threads here in the forum if you use those terms when searching.
But issues can be both device (how the rom is packaged if other roms work) and provider dependant.
As already stated in my original post’s 2nd sentence, I don’t know how to test VoLTE:
How to disable mobile calls with mobile data enabled (to force calls being done via data connection)?
Is there any other indicator for a VoLTE being active (ArrowOS showed an icon in the status bar when active + working)?
So I know that VoWiFi isn’t working (since I’m able to test this), but don’t know whether VoLTE is working (due to lack of testability).
And yes, as already stated, my provider is capable of supporting this feature, since it worked for years when ArrowOS was installed.
Thanks for the link, I will search a little; maybe I’ll find some useful information there.
Already searched here, but haven’t found any really useful information here (only general statements like “check if your device as well as your provider are capable to support these features” - as described above, I’m sure about both).
If this is device’s /e/OS-ROM dependent (as opposed to device’s general hard- and firmware abilities):
How to discuss with the ROM’s maintainer (or just how to inform about that issue)?
I found where the official supported devices’ ROMs are hosted at, but not the ones supported by the community (but maybe I’m just a little blind).
I also would be really glad to get some feedback about VoWiFi / VoLTE from other /e/OS users running it on the Poco X3 NFC (surya).
Very loosely speaking part of the subject there which might be applicable to you might involve apn settings which may need adjustment to the “new” AOSP APN methods introduced at the turn of the year. Your carrier (especially if a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) may be significant, even the SIM which must be capable of matching the new settings. Another key component may be IMS status.
More useful are the tests in the thread.
If you disclose your (German) carrier it might get the attention of others using them.
