it’s not only that. Everyone should thing over this:

  1. Do I really need a cloud service ? The data is NOT saved in a cloud, it’s saved on earth an the server needing a lot of energie.
  2. Do I really need movie/music streaming ? This streaming needs more energie as all people in Island
  3. Do I really need video chats ? It’s needing also alot of energie
  4. On how many places I have stored my photos, documents, music files and so on. Isn’t it enough to have it available once raw and once as a backup ? All this storage need some much energie

All this produce CO2 has hell and and pushed the global warming. And when and when the polar caps melt we will have to live with / die of many more viruses

This is a really interesting article on the topic, may be a bit outdated (Sep. 18) however there’s an interesting energy consumption forecast where, in one of the worst scenarios, the web would consume over 20% of the global electricity.

they could be energie efficence as hell, they will need energie and are supporting the global warming.

The same is true for any technology developed in the last 2000 years, everything requires energy that contributes to global warming in one way or another.
