What is "verify if the latest Android firmware is available for your device"?

So at the bottom of the page it says just that without any explanation.
1/ How do I check this?
2/ They do mean available? (As in: not necessary installed on your phone, just that it is ‘available’).

It’s a general question but I’m thinking of migrating from FP4 stock to e/OS.

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online services

Before you go ahead please have a read of one or two eosinstaller threads. It can go wrong.

I suggest to fully read the manual instructions Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP4 - “FP4”

as it is vital (as explained there) to know the Android SPL of your phone and I suggest write it down and save a screenshot before you start. The keyword here is anti-rollback.

Perhaps avoid update if not required.

it means are you up to date regarding stock OS ?

Thanks, though I feel the vendor security patch level / rollback issue is something else than what my question is about: android firmware.

Thanks Piero.
1/ “Your Stock OS Android version, must be the latest available relative to the /e/OS build you want to install → not higher !” I understand this as highest stock OS update but still the same Android version. So in my case: Update the FP4 to the latest Android 13, don’t upgrade to 15 as e/OS is Android 14. Correct? If so then e/OS translating this as "verify if the latest Android firmware is available for your device” is just trying to get people to make mistakes in my opinion.
2/ To my knowledge ‘vendor security patch level’ is something different than ‘android security update’, at least in my current FP3 e/OS it is (two entries with different dates). My FP4 does not show the ‘vendor security patch level’ but I can find it on the fairphone install website (in my case: 05 September 2025 so older than e/os 01 jan 2026).
3/ the page Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP4 - “FP4” explains the rollback issue pretty well (though the third example makes no sense). Why can’t they do the same for the Android firmware constraint at the bottom of the web installer page. As it stands it is very unclear especially as one has to find the sweet spot (apparently) between having the latest firmware yet an older (or equal) vendor security patch level.

Are you fully aware of a firmware upgrade required for your planned use of the phone?

Does it seem with fp4 that official on a14 is behind community on a15 as regards to Vendor SPL?

just for reference, the line in question on the web installer

they show the warning before any device is figured out, that is the issue.

For the Fairphones, /e/OS ships the updated firmware with the images, so this advice really doesn’t apply for that cohort (murena store sold phones).

The Rollback / SPL warnings given in this thread do apply to all devices.

“Are you fully aware of a firmware upgrade required for your planned use of the phone?”
I don’t understand what you mean. The web installer says “verify if the latest Android firmware is available for your device”. So the requirement is not coming from me.
" Does it seem with fp4 that official on a14 is behind community on a15 as regards to Vendor SPL?” Does it matter? I am not planning on installing the community version.
