So when I save a back up to the device in this case at Samsung A7 tablet, where does the backup store? it just says internal storage. I have saved the password, now I need the file. I will poke around once it is done (in progress).
Why wait from someone else to share knowledge when it is already posted :
I had no idea of the answer to your question but used the search utility of this (every) discourse forum aka the magnifier
I found this with the key word seedvault backup file
When I check Settings > System > Backup > Seedvault backup, Backup status and settings I do see SanDisk SD card referred to as internal storage, the context, I guess being that the backup is “on device”.
In the seedvault menus, there is the option to choose either local storage or USB stick (in the USB port, if it is plugged) or SD card.
Though from experience, saving on USB stick or SD card always fail, whereas it does not on internal storage. That means you have then to copy manually this backup somewhere else (without erasing it, to allow next backup to use previous files).
Though #2, even more importantly seedvault does not work well at all it seems not well maintained, moreover even when working partially, it does not save well or much, especially compared to the recommended backup and restoration in Murena /e/ OS documentation. After trying a lot with seedvault, I recommend to follow this guide and forget about seedvault:
I imagine that Murena is working on a better backup and restore / migration solution as it is a recurring request.
On the other hand, if your phone is old and has a TWRP recovery, then it is the best solution for backups it will save absolutely everything , even the lock screen PIN or apps that usually cannot be backed up because of a block enforcement.
I was in the middle of the backup when I posted. The .seedvaultbackup was in the root of the storage on the tablet. I was using my Linux Mate PC and copied the backup over but it would disappear after transfer LOL. I then realized that it was something to do with the .seedvault having the period (sudo) in from of it. So I made a folder on my Mate PC just called SV and copied the contents of the .seedvault backup into it.
I then updated to A16 and placed the folder back in the tablet. When I went to restore the backup it did not work (could not find the backup) until I renamed the folder with it’s full .seedvaultbackup name.
After that everything backed up. My wife is quite happy as she has all her stuff back and did not have enter any passwords. Made me happy too .
