Why a new TWRP?

In Gael’s announcement of the release of 0.1, he said one of the next steps is “we need a custom TWRP.” I am wondering why.

(I am pretty new to all of this, but TWRP works fine for me and was easy to understand. This project ultimately targets non-technical owners that will need /e/ preinstalled and will won’t likely fool around with OS installation no matter how easy.)

because he want have everything under his own hood

Here is an official comment:

I agree that OTA updates via normal TWRP are super easy - they don’t need any user input anyway - but I guess e.g. updating TWRP itself - which is often necessary for OS upgrades - could be made a lot easier for non-techy users.
