It’s worth the try, in case it fails you can still do a fresh clean install.
“dirty upgrade” is what you search in the forum, recently there have been a number of posts of people doing that and it worked well.
I already did it successfully via “adb-sideload” and via “local update” method on a Pixel4a and Tab5se with community builds.
Not sure though if the number of android versions that you jump makes any difference …
